Keegan McCarthy Keegan McCarthy 6'2" | 160 lbs | ATH Canyon View | 2027 State AZ is a junior safety who plays like he’s got a little linebacker in him — physical, fearless, and always willing to fly downhill when the defense needs bodies in the run fit. He helped bottle up the passing game early, using his size and closing speed to shrink windows and make Desert Mountain think twice about pushing the ball into the middle of the field. Even without a headline stat, he played winning football: steady tackling, clean angles, and the kind of presence that keeps a defense glued together when the game gets tight. His versatility really showed — big enough to thump, quick enough to cover, and confident enough to handle whatever the moment asked of him.

McCarthy does a great job in the back half for Canyon View, showcasing both excellent top end speed and closing speed. He does a great job reading the QB’s eyes and shows solid route recognition while flashing a nice burst on the ball. He plays loose, fast, and physical with a big striking ability and sideline to sideline range, as he’s really developing into a very well polished safety. He shows the athleticism to play that “centerfield” position well to patrol the field, but also has the zone awareness combined with that route/concept recognition. A very talented player that is prone for a big 2025 season.

A legit track guy with serious speed, he brings more than just wheels to the table — he’s got instincts and a physical edge that you don’t often see in young DBs. He plays the run like a linebacker, never afraid to lower his shoulder and deliver a hit, but also has the agility and ball skills to stick with just about anyone in coverage. That blend of physicality and finesse is rare, and it’s exactly what makes him such an intriguing safety prospect moving forward. What really stands out is how naturally he balances his run and pass responsibilities — he’s rarely out of position and always seems to be around the ball. Add in his high motor and willingness to compete on every down, and you’ve got a guy with a sky-high ceiling. 

Standing at 6’2″ and 170 lbs, Keegan McCarthy Keegan McCarthy 6'2" | 160 lbs | ATH Canyon View | 2027 State AZ is a ball of athleticism. A real threat both on offense and defense his speed and physicality show up in every part of his game. He has excellent speed as a receiver and can pull away if he gets the opening, but he isn’t at all afraid to lower his shoulder if he needs to. He runs decent routes and does a great job of using leverage to help give him space. On the defensive end, he’s got some great instincts that seemingly always have him around the football. Physical enough to help in the run game, he does a nice job of reading the quarterback in coverage which can make it seem like he’s in two places at once. As he gets to see more of a role on varsity in his sophomore season, McCarthy is a player to watch closely in 2024.
