Few quarterbacks in Minnesota carry themselves with the blend of calm and confidence that Harney does. Often compared to Joe Burrow for his presence and demeanor, he’s unflappable and surgical, leading the top-ranked Maple Grove offense that leans heavily on power and counter concepts from under center. Within that structure, Harney operates like a coach on the field—commanding protections, identifying rotation, and delivering the football decisively. When called upon to spread out, he processes quickly and fires with accuracy in rhythm, excelling in the quick and intermediate game. His motion is compact, and the ball arrives with tight spin and natural touch. When asked to run, he gets downhill, can extend plays, and flashes creative athleticism when the pocket breaks down. What separates him most is his mental makeup. He’s a curious, detail-oriented learner who studies pressure looks and constantly challenges coaches to explain the “why.” South Dakota State’s staff landed a poised, polished leader ready to elevate a championship culture.
Always need some QB representation, and Harney – a South Dakota State commit – is the best in Minnesota this fall
Three-year starter who is 22-3 at the helm of the Maple Grove offense and was an undefeated state champion starter last fall as a junior
78-133 (59%) for 1,578 yards and 16 TDs to 7 INTs in 2024 as a state champion
Iced his Maple Grove squad’s win in Week 2 of the 2025 MN regular season over Eden Prairie with a 50-yard TD scamper that highlighted his 4.6 speed and developing duel-threat skillset
Maple Grove is 2-0 in 2025 and ranked either #1 or #2 in the state, depending on who you ask
Harney has a strong arm and can easily push the ball downfield, making the long sideline throws look easy. He has ideal size for the position and the feet to match his arm. He moves well in the pocket and throws well on the move. Harney can tuck the ball away and run, too. His rushing yards don’t just come on scrambles; he has designed runs called for him, too. He has the speed to make defenses pay. On the basketball court, the junior is a good spot-up shooter, helping the Crimson to a 21-8 record. He and the Crimson will attempt to add a state championship in basketball to their championship in football in the fall.
