Expert Analysis
Chris Smith | Prep Redzone Scout
Aggressive and fast with a nose for the ball, Burruss burst onto the scene this Fall as a breakout senior star that produced at a high level for his Cookeville team while also boosting his college stock. Holding offers from Arkansas St., Charlotte, ETSU and TN Tech, Burruss remains available for the taking as we head closer to the February signing day. New staffs are being formed across the state and country, so new options may come his way over the coming month and I think they should because this guy can play. Burruss is a true middle backer with great instincts and closing speed that translate very well to the next level, so expect to see this guy’s recruitment continue to expand.

Burruss has burst onto the scene in a big way this Fall as one of the top breakthrough linebackers from our #TN2024 class and someone that has taken his recruiting stock to another level. Making a full transition over the linebacker this year, Burruss took advantage by showing off his instincts, speed and violence as well as his ability to cover in space. The Cavs senior defender excels versus run as he diagnoses the run early then attacks without hesitation and punishes the ball carrier while doing so. Due to his speed, you could put Burruss on the edge at times and ask him to rush the backfield and I believe he would do well. He fits the middle backer role perfectly but his natural athletic abilities allow coaches to move him around. Several FCS programs are looking into this Mid-TN talent right now and I feel some D1 schools could be involved soon too but either way, Burruss has turned himself into a legitimate college prospect. Has a somewhat thick build and runs with a low center of gravity. Smooth accelerator who gets upfield quickly, minimizing negative-yardage runs. Juice is sufficient to get to the outside on off-tackle runs and sweeps. Good eyes to recognize cutback opportunities off of stretch plays, with at least adequate footwork and good quickness to maneuver into lanes. Navigates well through congestion. Can make second-level defenders miss in space. Fights for additional yardage after contact and generally falls forward at the end of runs, pinballing forward off of contact.
