Expert Analysis
Brendan Mankarious | Prep Redzone Scout
A 2028 running back out of perennial NJIC power St. Mary’s, Johnny Chirico had some of the best feet at this event. Chirico was able to dip and side-step out of danger in both indy and competition settings. I also thought that Chirico ran with outstanding pad level.

Another athlete that could shape up to play multiple roles throughout his high school career,

is an athlete that will get plenty of reps it on offense and defense over the next few seasons. Focusing on his skillsets as a defender, Johnny is extremely quick and can beat the runner to the hole to blow up the play. A strong nosed tackler, Johnny can bring the hit to the ball carrier and knock them backwards. Johnny’s current size plays to his advantage as he’s able to move nimbly and cover a ton of ground quickly. Don’t be surprised if Johnny gets reclassified as an Athlete after this season.

– I currently have him slotted as a Top-20 New Jersey 2028 Linebacker as of June 2024.
I make no effort to hide it: I love Offensive Linemen, interior Defensive Linemen and Linebackers that also wrestle. Future St. Augustine Prep Hermit

fits that bill as a Linebacker, that could also get some touches on the offensive side of the ball as a Running Back too. He’s a well-built, tough kid that understands leverage. Understands how to use his stature to his advantage by keeping the power low to the ground and exploding through contact–on both sides of the ball. In watching some recent film of him, appears to have gotten noticeably faster since we saw him at the PRZ Next Middle School camp in January.

RB Type: All-Purpose
Vision- Sees the field really well. Keeps eyes to the horizon and naturally finds a way to get upfield with urgency.

Power- Has a muscular build with a wrestler background. Fights for additional yardage using his lower half to seek out yacs.
Balance- Does well after contact. Shields off defenders to keep feet clean.
Ball Skills/Security- Switches ball to outside arm to utilize weapon often. Catches the ball good when needed.
BPA: Big Play Ability- Plays with passion and will scrap for any extra inch

– Played for Washington Township
– Also a wrestler
– Film
The more I watch Chirico, the more I think I will eventually move him to be on the running back list. He’s a muscled up, short and compact athlete that runs low to the ground. Very strong and well-balanced. As a linebacker, too quick for linemen to block and too physical for backs or receivers. As a running back, a tank that just keeps his balance and moves forward at all costs.

out of Washington Township. Johnny is a hard hitting Linebacker but is seen playing running back in some of the clips I watched. This prospect shows power, strength, and speed on both sides of the ball whether it’s tracking down a running back for a tackle in the backfield or punching it in for a score in the red zone. His ability to get yards after contact in the most recent film I watched vs the Marlton Chiefs, shows his ability to break tackles and shows just how strong he is compared to his opponents. Chirico is also a stud wrestler which shows in his physicality on the field.
