Expert Analysis
Matt DeBary | Prep Redzone Scout
A rangy, athletic defensive back with a nose for the football, Black is a smooth athlete who plays hard and earned a big recent offer from the Indiana Hoosiers. One of the top 2028 defensive backs in Savannah, Black was an impact defender for a loaded Benedictine team as a sophomore, making 32 tackles, three INTs, and 15 pass-breakups to go along with one block on special teams. He’s got the potential to make big plays in all three phases of the game if needed and should push for All-Region status this fall as a junior. He’s currently ranked as the No. 34 DB prospect but that ranking will likely change in the next update this summer.

Another sleeper defensive back in the Savannah area, Black is an instinctive defensive back with length, quickness, and the ability to stick with receivers down the field. He plays fast, understands his role, and broke up passes consistently throughout his sophomore season last year. A sure-tackler, Black is one of the top returning defensive backs in the area for the 2028 class and really impressed last fall with 32 combined tackles, three INTs and 15 more pass-breakups. His recruitment is picking up and it could take off in a big way when college coaches watch him during spring practice this month.
