Expert Analysis
Hunter Tierney | Prep Redzone Scout
Haynie plays with that college edge already — the get-off is real, he’s got an actual pass-rush plan instead of just running in a straight line, and the impact is obvious because he’s not just landing sacks, he’s constantly affecting throws and stuffing the run (18 hurries and 16.5 TFLs). He’s one of those guys tackles hate because he keeps coming with different looks — speed, hands, counters — and boy, when he hits you, it shows up in how runners and quarterbacks react the next time. The next step is living in the weight room. If he’s able to fill out that frame, it changes the entire conversation because suddenly the same technique is attached to an edge who can hold up against bigger, more powerful left tackles. Right now, the feel for the position is the selling point — he understands how to rush and looks very natural doing it — and a summer in a college weight room could be the difference between “sometimes-disruptive package edge” and “guy who’s going to mess with your protection plan on Saturdays.”

Haynie makes his debut in the PRZ 2027 rankings as the #43 overall prospect and the #5 defensive linemen. He’s a versatile and athletic prospect at DE/TE with an impressive frame at 6’4” 225 lbs. He shows excellent length and room to add mass while maintaining his explosive first step and lateral agility. His combination of size and athleticism makes him a disruptive presence both as a run defender and edge rusher. He demonstrates good bend and closing speed off the edge, with a diverse set of pass rush moves to get off blockers. Consistently able to maintain separation and then shed blocks while playing with a relentless motor in pursuit to chase down field and from the backside. His skillset also translates well to the offensive side offering two-way value as a TE. Earned his first offer from NAU, and his upside continues to grow.

Haynie is a kid with a ton of potential with a very raw skillset and now combine that with a great new staff at Mesa- this provides him with through the roof potential. Strong, athletic frame with excellent length at 6’4″ 225lbs and played Edge last year for Mesa. He shows a solid initial ball get off and has the natural ability to deceive OT’s with either a quick hand swipe and burst outside, or set up an inside move. Big striking ability when he can get squared up and even when he can’t, he uses that length to his advantage to lunge and wrap up ball carriers from a good distance. Definitely a 2027 sleeper to get on your boards with a ton of raw ability.
