during the 2023 spring camp circuit and was impressed from the moment I watched him compete. Quick off the ball, Loftin can stem two gaps over. Should Loftin be unable to get home on the quarterback after working his swim, he will match the hand accordingly. Speed-to-power is not an issue when pass rushing, as he uses both approaches separately and in tandem, extremely well to open up and attack inside rush lanes. When playing the run Loftin gets his arms extended and has shown he can generate power from his hips. My lasting impression about Loftin’s film is that he is passion about the game and excited to make impact plays; all the while an ultimate competitor. Where other SEC commits would feel as if they had noting left to prove and only much to lose, this camp season Loftin was on the road competing and refining his skills.

from Somerville stands out as a 6’4″, 245-pound edge rusher who is incredibly twitchy and possesses a variety of pass-rush moves. He has a solid pass-rush plan and can dominate as a pass-rusher. I want to see him be more dominant in-game. Although this pick is a long shot, if Jayden becomes more dominant, he can position himself nicely to win this award.
His performance on the camp scene this year has been impressive, particularly in one-on-one reps. I want to see that translate into actual games, showcasing him as the dominant edge rusher he can be.
Somerville boasts enough talent with at least four Power 4 prospects on the roster, boosting Jayden’s chances. Jayden has made a significant leap from playing at 205 pounds last year to 245 pounds this year. This increase in size translates to greater dominance in-game.
Jayden has recently gained a lot of notoriety, securing numerous SEC offers and committing to the University of Tennessee. With his rising profile, team success, and significant impact on his team’s performance, Jayden can put himself in prime position to win one of New Jersey’s Defensive Player of the Year awards. This season, he has the opportunity to prove he is one of the most dominant defensive players in all of New Jersey.
Jayden ended last year with six sacks. A player of his caliber should be near the double-digit mark. Anything over double digits will solidify his case for one of these defensive awards.

- Very quick off the ball; athletic enough to stem two entire gaps over
- Appears passionate about the game, excited and fired up to make big plays, particularly when they count
- Works spin move; sets up inside moves by threatening with speed
- Kid is a load to handle; I think he can dominate with outright power, although I have not seen much of it on film yet
- Has shown to get hands on to strain and separate; similarly shows that he can generate power from his hips at moments, snapping and locking them
- Relentless in pursuit, keeps coming, keeps working, won’t say quit
- Looking to see him work hips around when he pass rushes and work the rip into his repertoire

Jayden Lofton demonstrated his prowess as a top defensive line prospect at the Prep Red Zone Stock Up Showcase. Despite not securing an MVP title, his standout performance highlighted his quick first step, effective pass rush moves, and a notable in-and-out maneuver resulting in a practice sack. Lofton’s physical presence and receptiveness to coaching further emphasized his potential as a game-changing player. With offers from Syracuse and Temple, as well as interest from Georgia Tech, he remains a sought-after prospect.

A prospect that I first saw at the Jersey Juice event last spring where he won defensive line MVP, Loftin has been a quick riser on recruiting boards across the country. Since I first encountered him in the spring, it has been reported that Loftin has picked up scholarship offers from FBS schools such as: Boston College, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, and West Virginia. This season I saw him in action and he was a load to handle. In only 7 games, Loftin made 33 tackles (23 solos) with 8 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, 1 blocked kick, and 1 pick. Loftin is versatile, as he has played off the edge, in a 4i, standup edge, and even a stacked backer. He is uber-athletic and plays the game with passion.

is a prospect that I have seen twice in person. First was at the South Jersey Jersey Juice event where he was named amongst the best defensive linemen – the defensive line MVP if I recall correct. Later the team I coach faced Loftin, and well, let us just say that he reminded me of what I saw in the summer. The ironic thing is that it was not just me who took notice. This season West Virginia was one of the first schools to get hot on Loftin’s trail as they offered him in October. In keeping up with the Jones’ several other schools then offered Loftin, including Pitt, Boston College, and Georgia Tech.

Loftin was, literally, described to me by the coaches in attendance with one word: electric. Any time he took a one-on-one spin, it seemed like everyone stopped, paused, and took in his rep. Where Loftin wins is with his hands. He swipes, rips, and clubs well; however, what he may be the most advanced at is using leverage when utilizing the push-pull technique to shed from an o-lineman’s block. I believe he was the only Somerset County athlete in attendance and he put on for his county.
