Hunter Tierney | Prep Redzone Scout
Knutson wasted no time showing what he can do. In his first outing, he went 25-for-41 for 466 yards and six touchdowns — enough to make any defense dizzy. But it wasn’t just the highlight throws. Over the season he eclipsed 350 yards six times, tossed at least four TDs in eight games, and threw only five interceptions on 318 attempts. What really stands out is how he handles pressure. Knutson doesn’t panic when the pocket collapses — he steps up, buys time with his feet, and still fires off off‑balance throws with zip when receivers break open downfield. That blend of accuracy, decision‑making, and playmaking under fire is exactly what you need from the guy who’s asked to carry the offense every week.

‘s season at McClintock High School was all about proving people wrong. Despite flying under the radar through the offseason, the senior quarterback turned heads with his ability to make big plays and keep his team in every game. Standing at 6’3” and 210 pounds, Knutson had the frame, arm strength, and leadership to take the Chargers’ offense to another level. Statistically, Knutson was one of the best in Arizona. He threw for 3,796 yards — good enough for 35th-best in the entire nation — and finished the season with a whopping 47 touchdowns against just 5 interceptions. With a completion rate of over 67% and 9.4:1 TD:INT ratio, he was locked in all season, throwing darts deep downfield and threading the needle in tight spots when it mattered most. Yet, despite his standout season, Knutson remains one of the most underrecruited quarterbacks in the state. It hasn’t shaken him, though. His work ethic and determination have been undeniable, and it’s only a matter of time before college programs take notice of his ability to lead an offense. For McClintock, Knutson wasn’t just their quarterback — he was their difference-maker. His senior season proved what he’s capable of, and for those who have followed his journey, there’s no doubt he’s just getting started.

showed that he belongs in the conversation when talking about the top quarterbacks in Arizona. Coming out in the first game of his senior season and throwing for 466 yards, completing 61% of his passes, and totaling 7 (!!) touchdowns leaves little room for doubt — if anybody even had any coming in. Just as impressive as the total numbers is the way that Knutson got there. He showed his impressive deep ball all throughout the game; putting both the strength to get the ball down the field and the accuracy to put it where he wanted it on full display. He also did a great job of going through progressions when his first read was taken away, and not hesitating to use his legs to get out of trouble. With some incredible off-balance throws, using nothing but his upper body and still having zip on the ball, Knutson was able to work around a talented and relentless Maricopa pass rush to find the passing lanes he wanted. If he wasn’t on your radar before,

Impressive QB that has been flying under the recruiting radar given his natural ability as a passer and improvisation skills. Quick delivery, gets the ball out on time with good speed and spin at the release point. Good ball placement at all depths, can throw his receivers open and puts it in a position where they can make a play. A savvy athlete that has good footwork and escape ability from the pocket. Feels and avoids pressure smoothly while scanning the field to find a target. Shows he can throw off different platforms and on the run to both directions maintaining accuracy and velocity. Performed well at this spring showcase and is a great recruiting breakout candidate this season. Threw for almost 2,800 yards with 32 touchdowns and a 64% completion rate in 2023.

had himself a great weekend at the OT7 Championships in Tampa. Consistently praised by the commentary crew, (though there were 3-4 different pronunciations of his last name) he was marching the Turf up and down the field seemingly every drive that he was at the helm. Showing good accuracy and better decision-making, Knutson was calm, cool, and collected even in the weekend’s biggest moments. I was really impressed with his willingness to take the short throw; especially in a seven-on-seven environment, it can be tempting to go for the home run throw rather than take what’s being given. Knutson didn’t waiver with that at all and if he can take that same attitude into the season, McClintock’s going to get a very productive season from their quarterback.

Knutson has been quietly putting together a very nice season this Fall, and the Junior passer should be one of the better passers across the region heading into the 2024 season next year. This season, he has already passed for over 2,500 yards and 25 TD’s through the air, adding another 160+ on the ground and three more scores. The Junior is also completing over 60% of his passes and has shown terrific efficiency from both inside and outside the pocket. On Friday night it was more of the same and he erupted for nearly 300 yards passing and five touchdowns.

from McClintock is a dynamic quarterback that’s truly eye-catching. His agility is one of his standout features, with remarkable quickness and top-end speed that serve him well both in and out of the pocket. When the play breaks down, Knutson has a knack for keeping things alive, exhibiting a fluidity that makes him so hard to bring down. His ability to dart away from an oncoming rush, find space, and then make a play is a sight to behold. He has really good arm strength, delivering throws with a zip that’s necessary to fit the ball into tight windows. His prowess doesn’t end there; Knutson’s capability to throw off balance and from various arm angles showcases a level of quarterbacking finesse beyond his years. Whether it’s a designed run or an impromptu scramble, his knack for making something happen when it matters is impressive. His performances have a blend of natural athleticism and cultivated skill, making him a quarterback who can not only get the job done, but often in a manner that leaves spectators in awe.
