Expert Analysis

Hailing from upstate NY, Caldwell was a major threat on the Canisius defense this season, leading them to the Monsignor Martin Championship game against St. Francis. Caldwell will be taking his talents to Bryant next season.
Caldwell can play on both sides of the ball, but I mainly see him as a Defensive Lineman. He has a good frame for his size, and standing at 6’3″ 275-Pounds, has a great blend of strength on the line. I like his hands, and he displays a solid tool bag, allowing him to utilize his skills to reach the backfield. His footwork is excellent, and he has fluid hips for his size. Bryant is a getting a monster on the Defensive side of the ball.
Congratulations Javez!

Last season Caldwell earned All-Catholic, All-WNY and All-State honors as an Offensive Guard but he excels on the DL as an athletic DT with great awareness. Javez has already committed to play college football at Bryant University and should cap his senior season off as a Trench Trophy finalist.

A breakout player as a junior, Caldwell earned All Catholic, All WNY & All State honors with his sound technique, fast get off and his ruthless aggression in the trenches. Caldwell has great size and is versatile enough to play anywhere on the D-Line.

Caldwell was a key defensive piece for a talented Canisius defense. I like his frame at the DT position; he holds a lot of his weight in a barrel-chested upper body. On tape, he lines up all over the defensive line. His body type fits 3-tech at the next level, but there is some potential versatility to move him to 5-tech or play as a bigger defensive end.
He consistently shows quickness in his get-off, effectively breaking down and making tackles in the backfield vs. zone read plays. On tape, you see him utilize a surf technique a few times when he is lined up more at the DE position.
I like his overall motor, he shows he can fight through double teams and knock guys back on tape, there is still another level of hand usage and violence he can develop, and you see occasional flashes of it on tape.

Caldwell, a new name to me when I saw Canisius play, is one of the top defensive linemen in this class, a good-looking kid at 6’3 275 – should be able to play 3/5-Tech at the next level.
Caldwell came to Buffalo from Alabama two seasons ago and took a big step forward this season for Canisius. – he returns as the top O-Line/D-line prospect on a Canisius roster that sent prospects to Purdue, Holy Cross, and Central Connecticut State.
