A new name out of Central York High School who looks to have been an oversight on my end when evaluating prospects for our Pennsylvania 2028 recruiting board. Currently listed at 5’10, 185 pounds with a 3.72 GPA, this junior has previously earned second team All-County honors and possesses an intriguing skill set as a rover, strong safety or box safety. He remains unranked for the time being, but that will be changing. He posted a two minute midseason highlight reel at the beginning of October and has since added several individual game cutups to Hudl. Although he wasn’t particularly active with his recruiting exposure early in the season, he appears to be picking things up and making more film available for evaluation. His midseason tape features production that includes 20 total tackles, two pass breakups and an interception, giving us a useful introduction to a defensive back who deserves considerably more attention.
His opening rep is an excellent example of why I believe he has legitimate recruiting potential. He is matched up against an outside slot receiver within what develops into a three receiver passing concept, forcing him to transition his hips and run vertically with a speedy wideout. He handles that responsibility extremely well, demonstrating the ability to flip his hips, maintain his stride and locate the football while working downfield. He eventually tracks the pass and secures an interception nearly 40 yards downfield, an outstanding display of coverage ability and ball skills. I love that he leads his highlight reel with this rep because it immediately answers several questions college coaches might have about his movement ability. He isn’t simply a physical safety who makes tackles near the line of scrimmage. He can turn, run, track the football and finish a play against a receiver with legitimate speed. That is an excellent combination of traits to showcase in his opening highlight.
His next rep features him aligned as a deep safety in a two high look, where he is responsible for a substantial portion of the field. The offense develops a swing pass toward his side, and he immediately recognizes the action before driving downhill from approximately 25 yards away. He closes the distance aggressively and delivers a tremendous hit on the running back near the sideline, creating the type of tone setting defensive play that can energize an entire unit. I appreciate the urgency, physicality and willingness to cover that much ground to finish a tackle. It is one thing to demonstrate coverage range from a deep safety alignment, but it is another to recognize a developing underneath pass and arrive with that kind of force. He looks like a fearless defender who could eventually handle alley filling responsibilities at the collegiate level, particularly within a defensive structure that allows him to work downhill from a safety alignment.
His awareness in coverage continues to stand out throughout the remainder of the tape. Another rep features him working from a two high safety look, where he recognizes an out route developing underneath and positions himself for what could have been his second interception of the season. He reads the quarterback and route concept well, arriving in position to make a play on the football but ultimately failing to secure the turnover. I still appreciate the recognition and anticipation involved, particularly because he understands where the passing window is developing and gets himself into position to challenge the throw. His fourth rep features him operating in underneath coverage against a crossing route, once again demonstrating an excellent feel for the passing concept. Had the quarterback delivered a more accurate pass, he may have had another opportunity to intercept the football. Those reps reinforce the idea that he has a natural understanding of route development and consistently puts himself in the right position to make plays.
What makes him particularly interesting is the versatility of his defensive responsibilities. He is comfortable playing from a deep safety alignment, matching receivers vertically, handling underneath coverage assignments and attacking downhill against the run or short passing game. That is exactly the type of flexibility I associate with a rover or strong safety who can move throughout the secondary depending on the defensive call. He has the awareness and movement ability to contribute in coverage, but he also possesses the toughness and physical mentality to align closer to the line of scrimmage when necessary. I don’t believe he needs to be restricted to one specific safety alignment, especially considering how naturally he appears to recognize passing concepts and adjust to developing plays. His combination of coverage instincts, ball skills and physicality gives a defensive coordinator several different ways to utilize him.
Overall, this is a very encouraging discovery and a player who absolutely deserves a place in our Pennsylvania 2028 rankings. His previous All-County recognition, academic profile and available defensive production already provide a strong foundation, but the film is what really separates him. He demonstrates excellent hip transition, the ability to track the football vertically, aggressive downhill pursuit and a natural understanding of passing concepts. I particularly appreciate that he can make plays both 40 yards downfield and near the line of scrimmage without appearing uncomfortable in either role. There is still more I want to learn about his overall athletic ceiling and consistency against stronger competition, but I have seen enough to confidently identify him as a rankable defensive back. He is a natural playmaker who appears to be utilized in exactly the right way, and I’m excited to get him properly represented on our site moving forward.
