Expert Analysis
Nick Rock | Prep Redzone Scout
Newborn led Pusch Ridge to a 3A state title win, and showed a ton of competitive toughness and really caught my eye during the playoffs. He played against some really tough competition, took a ton of hard shots in the semifinals game against Ben Franklin, but continued to pop up and produce. He did a great job on the ground, knowing when to abandon the pass and take off based off of what the defense was giving him. Really good top end speed in the open field and was a legit threat on the ground. Strong arm overall with the ability to stretch the field vertically or put it in tight windows. He was solid on the defensive side of the ball as well, so his dynamic ability provides him with a huge upside to play on either side of the ball at the next level.

Jacob Newborn Jacob Newborn 6'0" | 180 lbs | RB Pusch Ridge | 2025 State AZ has been nothing short of electric for Pusch Ridge this season. He’s not just a quarterback; he’s a problem for defenses. With 1,913 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and a 62.2% completion rate, Newborn has carved up teams through the air. But that’s only half the story. On the ground, he’s rumbled for 661 yards and 14 more touchdowns, averaging over six yards a carry and keeping defenders on their heels. Whether he’s launching a deep ball or breaking off a big run, Newborn’s ability to make plays has been the engine driving this team. In their semifinal win, he was everything Pusch Ridge needed: calm, creative, and clutch. Heading into the title game, the Lions’ hopes rest heavily on their dual-threat star to deliver once again.

Jacob Newborn Jacob Newborn 6'0" | 180 lbs | RB Pusch Ridge | 2025 State AZ is a real workhorse in the backfield for Pusch Ridge. Getting to over 100 rushing yards in all but two games that he played in, I was shocked to learn this was his first year at the position. Whether it was getting nearly 150 yards on just four carries or getting 101 yards on 21 carries, Newborn would do whatever was asked of him. He’s got some decent speed and becomes really dangerous once he’s able to get the corner. Though he was only able to find the endzone just twice on the ground last season, I’d expect that number to take a big jump in his final year of high school football.
