However, Sommers is back to looking like he did last season. He’s coming off a performance in the quarterfinal round where he ran for nearly 200 yards. With Sommers back in the lineup and putting up those kinds of numbers, this Poteau offense is going to be tough to stop.

on Friday night. He finished the night with nearly 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns on just 11 carries. Poteau is now 12-0 on the season and they have a semifinal showdown with Blanchard on Friday night. Sommers missed part of this season with an injury and he is looking more like the dominant running presence that we saw last season. With Sommers back to 100 percent, the Pirates are a serious threat to win the gold ball.

finished his junior season with over 1,400 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground. The duo of Collins and Sommers is going to be one of the top running back duos in the state, regardless of class. They will definitely come into this season as one of the best duos in Class 4A, but we have to start considering them in that position for the state, regardless of class. Sommers enjoyed that breakout season last fall but he’s looking to take his game to another level this fall. We anticipate both Collins and Sommers to be among the top rushers in Class 4A.

to enjoy a breakout season. Sommers is the other 1,000 yard rusher on the season and has become a touchdown machine over the last six games of the season. At the halfway point of the season, Sommers only had three touchdowns on the season. But in Poteau’s last six games, Sommers has reached the end zone 11 times, bringing his season-total to 14 touchdowns. He has at least two touchdowns on the ground in Poteau’s last three games as well. The combination of Collins and Sommers has been tough to slow down this season and Sommers seems to be playing some of his best football at the perfect time. If Wagoner can’t slow down the Poteau 1-2 punch, it’ll be a long day.
