Expert Analysis
Cole Dobbins | Prep Redzone Scout
Think Tyreek Hill. With a smaller frame, elite speed, and explosive cuts, Reese has the ability to take the top off the defense and eat up yards after the catch. Along with his consistent route tree and hands, Reese will help the historic Wildcats score in the return game. It may seem comical to call a rising junior who just amassed 1,000 total yards and 12 touchdowns a “breakout candidate”, but I expect Reese to blow up on the national scale in 2025. The diversity of offense he brings to the Guyer offense will only lead to more production this year. Expect his name to skyrocket and add to his offers from UNLV, North Texas, Sacramento State, and New Mexico.

Reese is a dynamic speedster who’s quickly establishing himself as one of the premier deep threats in the 2027 class. Though listed at 5’9″, Reese plays much bigger thanks to his elite burst off the line, fluid route running, and game breaking acceleration.
On film, he consistently stacks defenders and creates separation with ease, showcasing his ability to take the top off any coverage. In 2024 season was a breakout campaign, racking up 907 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, proving he’s not just a flash in the pan he’s a reliable playmaker. His ability to change the game on any snap makes him a nightmare for defensive coordinators, especially when lined up in space or given a free release.
What truly separates Erick is his upside on special teams. His top-end speed and vision make him a dangerous return man, capable of flipping field position or taking it to the house on any given touch. Whether it’s on offense or in the return game, Reese brings rare explosiveness that projects at the next level.

Dj Reese is an explosive player with the football in his hands. He has elite quickness with shiftinesses in space that allows him to excel at yards after the catch. Reese is electric and he has the speed to take a short pass to the house for six. He saw some playing time last season but should be more involved in the Guyer offense this season.

Reese has electric speed, he is phonebooth quick with the ability to shift gears quickly and his crisp route running enables him to win early putting pressure on defenders at the snap. Get the ball in his hands and let him work. He is shifty in space, he has a burst to create separation and his ability to make defenders miss in the open field makes him a weapon offensively. He won reps at the Select 50 Showcase, showing his agility and twitchyness in space to beat defenders off the ball. Reese is a big play threat who can turn a short pass into a big play in a heartbeat. Look for Reese to get plenty of touches for Guyer in 2024 and early offers from UNLV, as well as North Texas, show that college coaches have seen his big play potential.

Erick “DJ” Reese is another running back to mention coming out of this Prep Next South Camp. Erick is two-sport athlete who competes at a high level in football as well as basketball. As a Strike Middle School product, Erick is another camp standout that showed out in this group and competed with some of the best in this class. Standing at 5’9, Erick has already begun to show spurts of ability similar to some big name NFL stars with his speed and agili. With Erick trending towards the top-half of the camps 40 and shuttle times, he is already proving that he is going to be one of the more explosive athletes in this class. The most exciting thing about his potential is that this camp is not the only time that Eric has shined, he has also had the chance to compete in the Under Armor Next All-American bowl and put up some impressive stats and turned some heads in the process. Erick is a rare breed who can do anything and everything on the gridiron and it won’t be long until he is one of the most sought-after athletes in the country. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Erick climb to the top of recruiting boards in both football and basketball down the road.

to give a burner like Reese some space. Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins is one of the best players in the world right now…and I’m not saying Reese is that; But what I am saying, is that Reese plays a very similar style to Hill. He can get vertical and beat a lot of Defensive Backs off the line but his true ability is felt on underneath and shorter routes, which allow him to catch and run.
