Expert Analysis
Brian Jerzak | Prep Redzone Scout
Suess has excellent closing speed as a standup edge rusher. It is easy to tell he is diagnosing the play, and as soon as he reads it, he explodes. When he puts his hand in the ground, his first step is often too much for offensive tackles. Proven by his eight tipped passes, the junior’s length makes him a problem even if he doesn’t get to the quarterback. His length and upper body strength also help him get off blocks. Despite his length, he keeps his hips low when engaging with blockers – allowing him to hold up at the point of attack. At tight end, Suess is a good blocker on the edge and will occasionally get involved in the passing game.

One of the 2024s with the highest upside in the state, Kasson-Mantorville’s Easton Suess is one of the most athletic defensive lineman in the state. All of the best parts of the Minnesota-bred football/basketball multi-sport prep standouts, Suess comes in at 6’5 and a long, lean 200-210 pound frame and blew the testing portion of December’s PRzMN Showcase out of the water. Two 4.75 40s, a 4.35 and 4.38 short-shuttle, 9’8″ broad, and 6.9 L-drill made him one of the best testers at the event regardless of position or size, and college programs have taken notice, as Suess is fresh off his second unofficial visit to the Gophers and has also heard from NDSU, SDSU, UST, UNI, South Dakota, UNI, Iowa State, Dartmouth, and WIU since his junior season ended. On tape, I really like his get-off and how quickly he can get into the backfield and close. Suess beats blocks with quickness but can make tackles through contact, and I also like how strongly he tackles in space. His length also allows him to easily get his arms up and into passing lanes, and he’s even got the hands to pluck the ball out of the air as well. The big thing for him is going to be his weight and adding mass/strength, but the athleticism is verified and visible on tape and makes him a must-watch in the MN prep football recruiting scene. Going to be a big summer camp szn for the KM rising senior.

Suess used great speed around the corner. Then, he showed a spin move to beat a blocker on the edge. Two quick, inside moves got him into the backfield on back-to-back reps. Finally, good footwork and arm extension helped him beat another block.

At 6’5, 205 lbs., Suess made a heckuva INT from his DE spot against Byron when he got up into the air and into a passing lane, snagging the ball out of the air and maintaining his balance to earn an extra 10+ yards in the return. He’s looking fast off the edge from the 5T or standup wide-9 spot, and his length and get-off help him slip by bigger OTs in the run and pass game. He’s also showing a little bit of quickness when working to gaps inside. Suess is looking like another strong athlete out of KM.
