After a strong debut during his sophomore campaign, Drew Bergfeld Drew Bergfeld 6'1" | 205 lbs | RB Western Dubuque | 2027 State IA solidified his place as one of the driving forces of the Bobcats’ offense. Bergfeld ran for 1256 yards (7.9 YPC) and 18 TDs last season. Bergfeld is another standout noted for his speed, and recently he was part of the winning group for the Sprint Relay competition at the 2026 Drake Relays. Bergfeld is also an excellent downhill rusher, almost like watching a bowling ball running full speed into defenders and knocking them out of the way, while also being able to change direction on a dime and maintain good balance through contact. Even more impressive was the fact that he didn’t play in the 2nd half of four games due to how effective he was on the field, and Bergfeld will be the core piece for Western Dubuque as they willl look to push deep in the 4A playoffs in 2026.

We last posted an evaluation of Bergfeld seven months ago, which was before a junior season that saw him earn offensive MVP honors in his district. The junior carred the ball 159 times for 1256 yds (7.9 YPC) and 18 touchdowns with a two-point conversion. He added eight receptions for 122 yards and a score. Bergfeld also saw action on defense, where he totaled 11 tackles, seven of which were solo stops. He impressed during his 11th-grade highlight video. Bergfeld gets downhill in a hurry, making it difficult for defenders to wrap him up by keeping his legs churning. He flashes keen vision and cutting ability. Good balance also leads to a lot of extra yards after contact. Bergfeld reports a 4.54 second, 40-yard dash, an 11.4 100 meters and a 4.29 shuttle.

The lone junior in this group, Drew Bergfeld Drew Bergfeld 6'1" | 205 lbs | RB Western Dubuque | 2027 State IA took 167 carries for 960 yards and and five scores last season on behalf of Western Dubuque.
Bergfeld is a patient runner that allows the offensive line to set up blocks for him, waiting until the hole opens up before breaking through it. If time runs out and he’s forced to make something out of nothing, he can do that, too. When running into a crowd, it’s not a shocker when he comes out the other side, brushing off arm tackles and maintaining his balance when defensive players go after his ankles.

RB Drew Bergfeld Drew Bergfeld 6'1" | 205 lbs | RB Western Dubuque | 2027 State IA found his way onto the field as a sophomore and turned in a terrific performance with 960 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 167 carries. Drew plays like a runaway freight train, using his powerful 6’1”, 205-pound frame to bowl over defenders with ease. Bergfeld is a physical downhill runner who is a nightmare to play against, as he shows no signs of slowing down, gashing away at opposing defenses with each bruising run. His strong leg drive allows him to move off of would-be tacklers and keep going. He had a few impressive routes coming out of the backfield that resulted in nice gains. With his tools and the backing of a program like Western Dubuque, the sky’s the limit for Drew!
