As a running back, he is an excellent runner. His ability to make defenders miss in space is special. He is also a physical runner who is hard to bring down. Wright is a skilled athlete who can score on nearly every touch of the ball. He needs a big game this week to win a state title.

He’s a true do-it-all weapon for the Bears, but the more you watch, the clearer it becomes that his long-term future points toward the running back position.

Offensively, Wright plays with rare explosiveness and control. His acceleration through the hole is instant, and his balance through contact is exceptional. He runs with a natural low pad level, keeps his base wide, and shows the ability to absorb hits without losing speed. His vision and feel for spacing are advanced, he presses the line with patience, reads flow, and cuts decisively when daylight appears. Once he clears the first wave, he’s gone. His top-end burst separates him from pursuit, and his change of direction is elite for his age.

Clairton moves him around because he’s so versatile, slot, jet motion, backfield, and return game, but everything he does translates to the next level as a back. He has soft hands, smooth transitions out of routes, and the ability to make defenders miss in space. He runs routes like a receiver and finishes runs like a power back. That combination of versatility and toughness is why he projects cleanly as a college-level running back who can handle multiple responsibilities in a modern offense.

Defensively, Wright brings that same explosive athleticism and mindset. He’s instinctive and physical, playing with great eyes and closing speed. He’s aggressive downhill against the run, wrapping up cleanly and finishing through contact. When he drops into coverage, he shows fluid hips and the awareness to track routes and break on the football. Wright continues to be one of Clairton’s most important pieces. He was active in coverage with two strong pass breakups and an interception that came from staying patient, reading the quarterback, and reacting decisively. On offense he rotated in at both receiver and running back, showing quick feet, vision, and enough burst to create separation or find daylight in traffic. Wright’s compact, powerful build pairs well with his explosiveness, making him a two-way competitor that the Bears can trust to impact a game.

Donte Wright Donte Wright 5'9" | 170 lbs | ATH Clairton | 2026 State PA is an outstanding athlete who was excellent last year as a cornerback and as a returner for Clairton. As a returner, he showed a good ability to make defenders miss and the speed to take it to the end zone. The other part of his film I loved is his blocking ability. He does a great job of lead blocking for returners. On one return, I counted him blocking 3 different defenders. Then, as a cornerback, he has excellent skills. He has great coverage skills and gets his hands on a ton of balls thrown his direction. He is also a good tackler, who is excellent at making tackles in the open field. Wright is an excellent athlete in the 2026 class.

Akron came through Clairton and made sure to offer stud 2028 Brandon Murphy Brandon Murphy 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Clairton | 2028 State PA , this being a no-brainer type of move. What’s more intriguing, Akron also offered Donte Wright Donte Wright 5'9" | 170 lbs | ATH Clairton | 2026 State PA , a 5’9, 170 pound DB/WR who boasts a 4.0 GPA.

I wish I could get out West more often, I was clearly wrong on my evaluation of Wright. I had him down as a Division Two football player, here he is just last week earning an FBS offer out of a MAC school. I’ll be sure to cross my t’s and dot my eyes on all things Clairton moving forward. Expect a big jump in ranking, so long as his tape backs up the notion. The Akron offer serves as Wright’s first.
