At 6’1” and 185 pounds, Murphy brings a strong combination of size, athleticism, and football instincts that allows him to make plays on both sides of the ball. Defensively, he consistently showed the ability to create chaos by attacking the football and forcing ball carriers into mistakes. Murphy demonstrated excellent awareness when the ball hit the ground, quickly reacting and securing key fumble recoveries for his team. His ability to pursue plays from multiple angles made him a constant threat to opposing offenses. Whether lining up at linebacker or in the secondary, Murphy’s aggressive style of play allowed him to disrupt drives and create turnovers. His physicality and relentless motor stood out as he consistently played with high energy and determination. With his versatility and playmaking ability, Murphy continues to develop into a dynamic young prospect with the potential to impact the game in many ways.

He is one of the best athletes in the state. He can score anytime he touches the ball. He has great athleticism and speed to make defenders miss. Murphy is a tough player to stop, and he is only a sophomore. I am sure Bishop Guifoyle will focus on slowing him down.

Brandon Murphy Brandon Murphy 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Clairton | 2028 State PA has quickly become one of the most feared players in the area and it is rare to say that about a sophomore. Offensively he already projects as a prototype X receiver. He has the size, length, and body control to consistently win in contested situations and climb the ladder to make acrobatic catches. What makes him special is what he does after the ball is in his hands. He runs with the balance, vision, and physical edge of a running back. Corners bounce off of him, and when he is in space he has the shiftiness to create extra yards out of nothing. His blocking is equally impressive and shows just how advanced he is for his age. There are clips of him driving defensive backs 20 yards downfield like they are sleds, finishing every rep with the type of nastiness you usually only see from senior captains.

On defense Murphy has the tools to be just as impactful. He plays downhill as a thumper from the linebacker spot, meeting ball carriers in the backfield and arriving with violent contact. He shows great instincts, quickly triggering and slipping through blocks to blow up plays. What really makes him unique is his ability to cover. He is smooth in space, long in his drops, and shows the ball skills to disrupt passing lanes. The combination of physical maturity, versatility, and polish he shows this early should not be possible for a sophomore. It explains why Power Four programs are already lining up to recruit him, and it feels inevitable that his offer sheet will only grow.

Murphy, a sophomore but already one of the most talked-about names in the 2028 class, continues to prove he is ahead of his years. At 6’2” 185 pounds, he looks the part of a future national recruit and plays like it too. He set the tone on the first defensive series, knifing into the backfield and dropping Penn State commit Gabe Jenkins for a loss. On offense he was even more electric, pulling in an acrobatic 30-yard diving grab in traffic while also turning short passes into chunk plays on tunnel screens. His ability to weave through traffic, break tackles, and drag defenders for extra yards showed just how complete his game is becoming. Murphy is already a two-way cornerstone for Clairton. 

In a team loaded with athletes, Brandon Murphy Brandon Murphy 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Clairton | 2028 State PA is probably the best athlete. He is an elite athlete who can play any skill position on the football field. He has great athleticism and speed that you expect from a player of his caliber. He has some of the best body control I have seen from a prospect. His ability to go up and catch the ball when defenders are near him is impressive. Murphy is already up to 11 offers, and I expect that number to rise. He is one of the best players in the state. I am excited to see how he does going into this season.

He offers ability at every position he plays whether it’s kick returner, WR, or DB he looks natural out there. Murphy glides when in his tape and changes direction smoothly which pops. Murphy checks all of my boxes or as many as you can for a rising sophomore. When he’s playing DB he just moves naturally and it’s the same for WR. But in my opinion his most electrifying plays were as a kick and punt returner, gashing and gliding through coverage units like it’s a piece of warm butter, Murphy like i’ve said a ton of times is just a natural athlete with so much room to grow.

His ability to make defenders miss on punt returns is special. He has a great combination of speed and athleticism. The other impact Murphy made was as an outside linebacker. His ability to set the edge and make plays near the line of scrimmage is impressive. He has a great feel as an outside linebacker at reading the offense plays. He also is a good tackler, especially in the open field. Murphy has started to get several Division 1 offers, and I expect more offers to come his way.

He is excellent at punt returns by making players miss, getting into the open field, and using his speed to run past defenders. Then, as a defender, he shows good skills as an outside linebacker/strong safety. He is an excellent tackler and does a nice job in coverage. Murphy is a legit athlete who is good on both sides of the ball.
