Derek had an excellent game in week 5. He had 2 sacks and also rushed for 39 yds and scored a TD. His very good play helped Elder defeat Louisville St. Xavier 17-15 to improve to 4-1 on the season. He plays as an OLB. Against the pass, he shows very good explosiveness off the snap and exhibits very good use of hands and play strength as he overpowers the TE before disengaging. He plays with a very good motor in pursuit before finishing up with a sack. Against the run, he quickly keys and diagnoses the play and displays very good range in pursuit. He plays with good leverage and delivers a powerful hit behind the LOS for a TFL.
