North Polk has been among the most successful programs in Class 4A this decade, winning a state title two years ago. The Comets seem ready to soar into the playoffs once again, win or lose against Gilbert on Friday. Victory is preferable, of course. The reason they find themselves in the mix again is because the program continues churning out quality prospects for the next level. Caves has the look of a student-athlete developing among the group in the next wave of talent. His 500 receiving yards this season are the second most among Iowa sophomores in 4A and 5A. Caves has caught 31 passes with four of them being touchdowns. Highlights are limited, but we see a prospect packed with potential with the speed, agility and toughness during this long run. We’re looking forward to evaluating more film when it’s available.

North Polk has built itself into a Class 4A factor, winning a state title with an undefeated season in 2024 and getting back to the quarterfinals again this year despite heavy graduation losses. With that in mind, it’s not easy to get on the field as a freshman. Caves overcame those odds in 2025, delivering 11 receptions for 180 yards and a touchdown as a ninth-grader. He also averaged 19.5 yards on four kick returns. Caves’ Hudl page does not yet house any video highlights, but based on his production at a young age, we look forward to being able to watch him in action soon.
