is just a football player. Standing at 6-foot and 205 pounds, Burford has the look of a prosect that could be placed anywhere and be impactful. That showed on his junior year tape, where he helped lead the Beavers to an appearance in Cedar Falls.
Even taking on the monstrous OL that Kuemper possessed this last season, Burford played with intensity and wasn’t going to back down simply because he was facing what would soon be Division I offensive linemen. Going straight into their chest with explosion and an evident desire to make a tackle, programs like Northwestern thrive with additions just like Burford to its roster.
Burford was an impactful presence on a Wilton defense that helped the Beavers’ march to the state semifinals, which included an upset win at PCM in the quarters. The junior accounted for 52.0 tackles, 32 of which were of the solo variety. Burford posted 6.0 tackles for loss and contributed four two-point conversions on offense. The statistics point to his strength being an individual embracing the game’s physicality. We also see that during his 11th-grade highlight video. Burford fires off of the edge when the ball is snapped. He operates with violent hands and unusual strength, absorbing blocks and separating from them in a hurry. Burford moves well laterally and in a straight line, traits that help when he’s given the ball on conversion attempts. They also would aid him when contributing for special teams’ units on the next level. Burford is capable of playing linebacker with his skill set.
