As always, St. Thomas Academy is packed with impressive LB prospects. The Mendota Heights-based private military school is one of the most tradition-rich recruiting grounds for linebackers in the state, and the Cadets have a stud sophomore ‘backer in 6’, 190 lber. Connor FlanaganConnorFlanagan

Flanagan popped off for 5 tackles and 2 sacks in STA’s Week 7 loss to Two Rivers, 30-29, and the Week 1-4 highlights open with a nice read/reaction, trigger, and 1v1 thump on a Chanhassen RB in the hole and right at the second level of the defense. Strong, physical, assertive tackle in space.
The second rep of his highlights is a hecukva man-on-man thump and win at the contact point against a large tailback right in the hole. Flanagan is physical in block defeat, closes in a blink, sniffs out the rock quickly and smashes ball carriers at the contact point. Good overall range as an off-ball LB and makes plays all over the field, high motor, violent, and easily one of the hardest hitters in the 2029 class. Good baseball player and wrestler as well. I had mentioned Cooper Flanagan early this offseason as a rising stud, and he should have a much bigger presence on the Cadets’ defense as he enters his sophomore season. An explosive and hard-hitting defender who flashes great vision and anticipation for his age, Flanagan excels as an all-purpose LB who could create pressure in the backfield, limit the runs outside the box, and jam the ball out of the receiver’s hands as the ball gets to him. Having grown quite a bit since his freshman season, Flanagan could become a starter, and possibly very soon a captain for the Cadets’ defense as his stock continues to surge.
