Wurster has long been one of my favorite linebackers in the state, and the Lenoir-Rhyne commit had a senior season worthy of his lofty ranking. Capped by a strong QC Senior Bowl performance, Wurster’s season was yet another step forward. He was a ball hawk at linebacker, with three picks and four forced fumbles. He continues to improve and we wouldn’t be surprised if he saw the field early in college.

At the linebacker position on the West Team, I felt like Chris made the biggest impact. Chris made some highlight-worthy tackles on a couple of occasions – one being on a bootleg pass the East Team had success on earlier in the game. Chris snuffed it out quickly and made an impressive hit on a tight end in pass coverage. Secondly, Chris showed his speed and hustle on a big run the East Team had. Chris chased the back downfield and laid a big hit on him to prevent him from possibly scoring a touchdown. Chris is committed to Lenoir-Rhyne, and they got a good one.

Chris has led the Storm to a strong bounce-back season with a winning record currently, and prospects for the State Playoffs look very good. Chris has been the linchpin of his team’s defensive scheme, and he’s produced double-digit tackles in nearly every game this season. He’s deserving of this honor, and I’m excited to see how he leads his team the rest of the season.

I don’t have an official tackle count for Chris from this past Friday Night, but he was absolutely the main guy defensively for the Storm when there was a big stop made. From his middle linebacker position, Chris was running plays down all night long. The blocking scheme from Burns definitely accounted for him, but Chris still found a way to make a couple of highlight tackles for loss, one featured prominently on his Twitter profile. Committed to Lenoir-Rhyne, I have confidence he will help rally his team to bounce back from a tough loss.

Chris has been one of my favorite players for the last couple of years over in Gaston County. He has grown physically and is one of the leaders of a young Storm team that started to take some steps in getting better as the season went on. Chris does a good job of getting to the football when he’s able to run free and shows some potential sideline-to-sideline ability with his overall speed and agility. Chris should pick up some college interest with some strong performances at camps and showcases coming up this summer.

Wurster is a natural linebacker who is getting better and better every season. He’s always been a guy who can fly downhill to stuff the run, but he showed tremendous improvement in pass coverage this season. Since the season has ended, he’s performed well at the CFI Showcase and continues to impress on and off the field.

Wurster is a fun evaluation. An old school thumper in the middle, Wurster plays with a ton of energy: before, during and after the play. He gets downhill in a hurry once he commits and he finishes tackles with authority. He’s one of the best in the class at sorting through the mess and finding ball carriers in the running game. If I see a bit more in pass coverage this year, I’m ready to push him way up our rankings in the next update.
