is our final defensive lineman on this breakdown and it’s going to look a little different when he takes the field this season. Young got on the field last fall and showed that he could be an impact player along the defensive line for Blanchard. But in the last month, Young decided to make the move from Blanchard to Tuttle and he now joins the defending 4A state champions. He joins a Tuttle defense that has routinely been one of the better units in Class 4A over the last few years. So it will be interesting to see how he fits in on a new team. He also has a very good background in wrestling so he’ll fit right in with Tuttle’s outstanding wrestling program. But Young is a 2028 name to file away in this DL group.

To start off the Friday Film Review, we have to start off with a big guy that plays on the defensive line and plays for Blanchard. Christian shows he can play down the line of scrimmage chasing the ball carrier without creating extra running lanes. He shows good technique, especially when working through double teams. He does a good job shedding blocks and making plays, helping clog up the middle and disrupt the offense. He fights pressure with pressure to free himself and stay active. Christian also shows the ability to cross face and work into the next gap. Moving forward, I’d like to see him continue to develop his pad level and improve his get-off at the snap, which will help him become even more effective up front and help him dominate on the defensive line.

is going to be one of those young defensive players to keep an eye on this season. Young is a 2028 prospect that we’ve known about for a while now but this spring was our first chance to really watch him go to work in person and with the pads on. Young was really impressive at one of the team camps in May and there were definitely signs there that pointed to him being a breakout player for the Lions this season. Granted, he has to now go out and prove it Friday night but we think he will. It might take a few weeks because of how tough the non-district slate is. But we think Young and the rest of the defense will step up in a big way.

Blanchard is going to have a first year head coach but you shouldn’t overlook the Lions. We really like some of the personnel they bring back on the defensive side of the ball.

is one of the young and up and coming players that Blanchard will need as they enter a new era of Lion football. We got a chance to watch Young go to work at the Noble team camp in late May and he impressed. Up to that point, everything we’ve seen of his game was on film. But this gave us a chance to be 15-20 yards away from him going to work on the line of scrimmage and he’s incredibly disruptive. It also looks like his bag of tricks to get by offensive linemen is deep.
