Expert Analysis
Oliver West | Prep Redzone Scout
Mounds View has quite the darkhorse, big-bodied, sleeper of an X receiver who has earned and cemented a spot on the 2027 Ranking’s Big Board thanks to his film, efforts, frame, and athleticism from his 2025 junior season. Wassink’s obvious size/speed combination catches the eye, and the film keeps it, and it’s hard not to think about the ceiling and potential on the 6A wideout who averaged 24 yards a reception as a junior. A long strider who can cover ground as a route runner and get up to top speed quickly, Wassink can take the top off the defense and abuse 6A secondaries deep, 6A secondaries on a heavyweight schedule of opponents, I may add.
Wassink demonstrates a big catch radius and strong hands catch the ball away from his body and through traffic, and he tracks and plays the ball well in the air and in a variety of situations. It’s both impressive and exciting how the 6’5 WR seemed to burn just about every defense – talented defenses, and DBs, I may add – deep that he played against in 2025, as he does a good job of setting up a DB and working into and exploiting his blind spot once the opportunity presents itself. Wassink is an asset and mismatch in the redzone and in fade-ball, 50/50 situations and drops his hips and sits down well for a bigger wideout. The rising senioralso finds holes in zone defenses smoothly and has the awareness to break off his routes and take what the defense gives him when seeing off-man coverage, and can complete catches through contact and big hits to boot. DII ceiling depending on his athleticism, testing numbers, and performance on the upcoming Summer Camp Circuit.
