came down from Kansas and immediately turned heads. Akins was not only top ten in both drills, he was in the top three for both. In the 40-yard dash, Akins ran a time of 4.78 on his second attempt and that was good enough for the second fastest time. In the shuttle run, Akins was clocked at 4.38 seconds and that was good enough for the third fastest at the camp. Akins was also right there near the top of the running back position during the individual drills and one on one competition. Derby isn’t exactly lacking talent and they have another playmaker coming up.

Cameron Akins stands at 5’8 and close to 150 pounds out of Kansas. This kid is a playmaking machine. Easily one of the better running backs I’ve seen as a perimeter runner. He has already accumulated over 1200 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns in 8 games. Cameron shows off his pull away track speed countless times once he’s at the second level. He also has solid receiving skills and contact balance inside the tackles. I think he can make an immediate splash next season as a returner as well.
