One of the first Deacons that caught my eyes from my live viewing of this squad last season, was 2024 DE/LB Cam Ahlers Cam Ahlers 6'1" | 210 lbs | DL Fargo Shanley | 2024 State ND who regardless of where he lines up defensively you can bet his ballhawk instincts will be hoovering over the ball carrier. At a growing 6’1 225 pounds, Cam has developed his frame in the weight room since that viewing in 2022 and has a plethora of moves he has developed with his hands over time that have some upside to continue to grow at the next level. Cam also has a well-versed motor that has plenty of gas from inside, to the edges, and beyond as although he has two offers (DIII and NAIA) I am very surprised he hasn’t gotten more attention on his recruiting trail.

I was impressed with the growth of Cam from watching him last fall with how much stronger he’s gotten, adding about 15-20 pounds to his frame to solidify playing on the defensive line at the next level. He showed off a quickly noticeable twitch off his first step when I watched him 1v1s, as his quick trigger off the ball has certainly gotten swifter since last Fall. Cam also was more collected in my eyes with working his hands against bigger competition as he won a handful of 1v1 reps with solid technique and well-developed athletic angles to get into the backfield. At 6’1 225 pounds, Cam is one of the biggest sleepers in North Dakota’s 2024 class right now, somehow still waiting for that first offer and is one that if it was me, he would be a prospect I would offer right now with how locked in he has gotten with his development since watching him last Fall.
