One by one below, we evaluate what each prospect brings to the table at the next level of the four Deacons, that in my eyes should all be playing college football next year.
North Dakota’s Max Preps Player of the Year Landon Meier Landon Meier QB Fargo Shanley | 2024 State ND logged an insane 61 touchdowns as a senior as he shattered five total state records in the 2023 season, but yet with all those accolades is still uncommitted and in my eyes under-recruited. The poise Landon shows off on tape is relentless under heavy pressure as this kid’s decision-making has the clutch gene that shows off his loaded football IQ. He also shows some excellent ball placement with his precision on intermediate and deep routes as that consistency rolls thru heavily on tape. Landon also has a sound touch on the bulk of his throws and so far, only one MIAC offer which is baffling in Mid January.
One of the first Deacons that caught my eyes from my live viewing of this squad last season, was 2024 DE/LB Cam Ahlers Cam Ahlers 6’1″ | 210 lbs | DL Fargo Shanley | 2024 State ND who regardless of where he lines up defensively you can bet his ballhawk instincts will be hoovering over the ball carrier. At a growing 6’1 225 pounds, Cam has developed his frame in the weight room since that viewing in 2022 and has a plethora of moves he has developed with his hands over time that have some upside to continue to grow at the next level. Cam also has a well-versed motor that has plenty of gas from inside, to the edges, and beyond as although he has two offers (DIII and NAIA) I am very surprised he hasn’t gotten more attention on his recruiting trail.
Highlights
Over half of Landon Meier Landon Meier QB Fargo Shanley | 2024 State ND ‘s passing touchdowns went to 2024 Shanley wide receiver standout Sam Ovsak Sam Ovsak 6’0″ | 170 lbs | WR Fargo Shanley | 2024 State ND , who broke his own state records in receptions (104), receiving yards (1523) and touchdowns (23) which are all extremely eye-catching numbers for this uncommitted senior. Sam’s burst comes out swift once he gets to the second level, as he also possesses catchy agility on tape that shows how easily he can get separation as a wide receiver prospect that can also operate well with his hands in very tight windows as Sam plays with a ton of poise with his route-running ability. He is another Deacon that is way too under the radar in my eyes, but there is a local football program that could highly benefit from these uncommitted Deacons if their recruiting doesn’t pick up quickly.
In my eyes, the biggest surprise out of this list of Fargo Shanley 2024s that are under the radar and uncommitted is that Jordan Leininger Jordan Leininger WR Fargo Shanley | 2024 State ND does not have his first offer yet as the tape doesn’t lie that this kid is Saturday’s material. Watching the first looks of his senior tape, you see the full circle of athleticism Jordan has, as this kid only needs a tiny window to show off his excellent hands he has at his disposal. At 6’1 200 pounds, I also love Jordan’s high topping ability as he shows off a monster catch radius and excellent balance with his footwork around the edges of the field. Have I mentioned too that Jordan is a swiss-army knife that had seven interceptions on the defensive side of the ball? The well-versed balance on both sides of the ball gives him a plethora of position flexibility at the next level as I would have offered Jordan yesterday if I was a college football recruiter.
