On the gridiron, Spates is a new name to the PRZMN radar and ranking’s Big Board, acting as a 6′, 200 lb. inside backer who runs the alley well and shows great play speed that can pursue out to the edge. He naturally finds the rock and acts as a turnover machine in the middle of the Ponies defense, displaying an excellent rep of him stripping an upright Mounds View kick returner for a huge momentum-shifter of special teams turnover, and he’s physical when working in block defeat and as a tackler. Spates also demonstrates effective and impressive twitch as a blitzer who really shows some juice when working against OTs and OGs in pass pro, and he takes great angles to the football and is overall a highly-technical LB with a fun skillset when projecting to the next level.
