If there’s an eighth-grader playing defensive tackle for a Class 5A program, it’s notable. That’s the case with Campbell at Cedar Falls. I had a chance to catch the youngster in action Friday night when the Tigers visited Iowa City High. First, you wouldn’t know he’s not yet in high school based on physical appearance. He looks the part. Once the ball is snapped, Campbell continues proving he belongs. With a low center of gravity, unusual power for his age and an understanding of the importance of leverage, he’s a handful to block already. Campbell is a good athlete that moves well laterally and in a straight line. He has strong hands and a fast motor. It will be fun tracking his development in the game during the coming years. Colleges should add him to their recruiting data base yesterday.
