Vernon has been on the national radar since probably his sophomore year of high school. He had a big frame even at that point and had superb combination of athleticism to go with it, especially for a 16-year-old. While Vernon initially profiled as a defensive end he has continued to grow and add weight and I see him now as a either a defensive tackle or a or a defensive end in a 3-4 defense as a two-gapping defensive end. Vernon’s quickness and athleticism for his size I think would make him a player that could reck shop on the interior of the defensive line, which is where I look for him to call home at Notre Dame. His get-off and his athleticism are going to win at the point of attack, and from that point his speed and athleticism will help him make plays behind the line of scrimmage. The defensive tackle at the Power 5 level I think will be a little bit of an adjustment for Vernon, but once he gets comfortable, I think he could flourish.
