Welch showed he’s a solid performer in a balanced attack when I scouted him during a Week 5 game at Iowa City High. The senior toted the rock 20 times for 147 yards and a touchdown in a decisive victory. He also hauled in a couple of passes for 23 yards and stuck is nose firmly into the action as a blocker. A future as a ball carrier on the next level makes sense. There’s also a path to success as a defender. He registered five solo tackles in this contest and displayed traits necessary for profit on that side of the ball. Welch enjoys the game’s physicality and would be an asset on special teams, too.
