of St. Joe’s Regional might be the most complete tight end in New Jersey. He checks every box—blocking, catching, and winning in traffic. His best trait is his ability to secure tough catches through contact. Add in his sharp concentration and diverse route running, and you see why he stands out.
Last season, an ankle injury slowed him down. This year, he’s healthy and ready to dominate. Shust will be a key weapon in St. Joe’s offense and a reliable target all season long. Already committed to Wake Forest, he’s set to prove why he’s one of the top tight ends in the state.

is a prospect that I have known about and heard about for about two years now. The last two years have been disappointing for me, though, as I was never able to find tape on Shust. That changed this offseason and, after watching his tape, Shust is absolutely one of my favorite prospects and is as complete a tight end as you will find. First, as a target Shust refuses to catch the ball with anything other than his hands – each and every time. Perhaps what makes him so intriguing a prospect, however, is that he has the speed to split cover 2 safeties up the middle when running posts. A subtle thing that he does well is slow play play action passes to sell the fake, while simultaneously creating a void in the coverage to serve as a safe outlet for his quarterback. As you might expect from tight ends of his size, Shust can absorb hits and maintain possession of the ball and also stay on his feet. Moreover, he runs with a forward lean as contact arrives to get cheap-and-easy yardage when he eventually falls forward. Defenders who go low on him are subject to getting hurdled as well. So clearly we can see that Shust is an excellent target, but how does he block? Shust has shown to block as an in-light tight end, a sniffer, and along the perimeter. When sealing across the formation he delivers a good pop when kicking out; but what impressed me the most was that he maintains an idealistic base when drive blocking and keeps his elbows tights to his frame.

left a lasting impression with his all-around play for St. Joe’s. After missing last season due to injury, he’s returned with the physicality and versatility that make him a force on offense. Shust has the size and frame of a future pro, and he plays like it, excelling in both receiving and blocking—his ability to catch through contact and gain yards after makes him a constant threat. But what rounds out his game is his work as a run blocker, where he uses that same physical edge to pave lanes. Shust proves he can impact multiple facets of St. Joe’s offense, making him one of their most valuable assets.

Traditional TEs are something of a relic in today’s game. However, when you have one, especially that has NFL-caliber size, it presents mismatch nightmares for defenses. This is precisely what the St. Joseph (Montvale) Green Knights have in

. This man-child came to campus at 6’6″ 235lbs (I know!). I believe he only played freshman ball last fall.
Time-after-time you see that Shust abuses teams by catching the TE pop pass. He is too big and fast for any LB or safety to match up with him. Shust is athletic enough where he is able to line up in the slot to demonstrate said athleticism. He catches with his hands and can adjust to make catches on balls thrown behind him as well. Shust does more than just catch passes though – he is totally into blocking too. The intensity he brings when blocking is leverage to his OC’s playbook. Many times you will see Shust block and then nicely time out his release for a quick slip screen. Shust, on several occasions, completely annihilates unsuspecting LBs who do not have their head on a swivel when he is called to crack block. Two things that will make Shust a blue chip, D1 prospect ready to play that fall in a few years is sharpening his route running and engaging with 3-points of contact (hand-head-hand) when in-line blocking.
Should Shust commit against his coach’s four-year plan for him, a metamorphosis will happen. Shust will transform from “Baby Huey” to a bonafide, Divison-I prospect with his pick of colleges lining up for his services.
