Anytime I watched the Cardinal Hayes defense it felt Smart was around the ball making a play. He led the state champions with 114 tackles on the season. Smart isn’t the biggest linebacker, but he’s easily one of the fastest. He flies to the ball carrier and showed his excellent tackling ability throughout his senior year. Smart was also good in pass coverage and was more than capable of breaking up passes in key situations.

One of my breakout candidates in this special Cardinal Hayes 2025 class. He showed a lot of flashes of how good he can be during his sophomore year. Smartt is one of the most versatile linebackers in this class. Last year we saw him being able to stop the run, but there is so much more than to his game. He has the quickness to cover a slot receiver and makes plays on the ball. In the preseason he’s shown the added strength to get off blocks and successfully rush the passer.

Cardinal Hayes class of 2025 is a theme amongst our new additions and biggest riser and for the LB/DB group Ayden Smartt Ayden Smartt 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Cardinal Hayes | 2025 State NY is the name to know. Smartt is a smooth fluid athlete that does a good job both against the run and pass. Against the run, Smartt is quick enough to beat blockers using that quickness and get his hands on ball carriers around the LOS. In coverage, Smartt is athletic enough to align and cover from the slot or move inside and cover a TE/RB. Versatility is a big part of Smartt’s game and that comes from being one of the better athletes at this position in the class.
