had the potential of being moved to ATH in our rankings after playing some receiver and defensive back later in the season, but his film shows that he can play quarterback at the next level. He’s still a bit of a wild bronco that still needs to be broken in a bit but if a college program manages to do so they’re getting a gem and a steal. His highs are elite and his lows can be back-breaking but he has the opportunity to level his play out and create more highs and less lows. Cowan is the type of player who can have you shouting NO, NO, NO, YES! during any given play and has the innate ability to create Houdini-like highlights. 6’2 190 athlete who has been timed in the 4.6-4.7 40 range showing he can move around positionally if need be at the next level. He’s someone you need to coach hard but be patient with and the fruits of your efforts have the chance to be plentiful in time.

. The 6’2 190 Cowan exploded onto the scene last season after taking over the reins at quarterback for the Cadets. The junior signal caller threw for over 2,400 yards and 27 touchdowns last season while leading his Linsly Cadets squad to one of their best seasons in school history with a 9-1 record. Although not tasked with many designed QB runs, Cowan possesses good mobility and the ability to escape the pocket and throws well on the run. He also does a nice job standing in the pocket while scanning downfield and throwing with zip on the ball. Cowan can make all of the throws and does a nice job on short, intermediate, and vertical throws. He also spends a lot of time training on his own time which has paid dividends in his game.
With a full-season under his belt and another off-season, Cowan will take another step forward in his senior season.

Atley Cowan is a stellar quarterback for Linsley High School (WV). In 2022, Cowan passed for 2418 yards and 27 touchdowns. Some scouts have Atley listed as WV’s top rated quarterback for the 2024 class.
At 6’2″, 192 pounds, Cowan has terrific size. He is a prototypical pocket passer with outstanding mechanics and pocket presence. Cowan is very athletic and is an effective runner but looks to pass first in Linsley’s spread attack.
Cowan demonstrates exceptional pocket presence and has a unique ability to feel pressure, shift the pocket, reset his feet and deliver throws accurately. HIs mechanics are well-polished and his outstanding accuracy is the result. Cowan has a fluid, over-the-top throwing motion and good arm strength.
Cowan excels in the vertical game and demonstrates terrific touch on the deep ball. He reads coverages well and is patient in allowing plays to develop and receivers to come open. His strong arm and accuracy allow him to deliver passes with good velocity and into tight windows. While his strength lies in the passing game, Cowan is an adequate and athletic runner.
Perhaps the greatest attribute of Cowan’s game is that his eyes are always downfield. He demonstrates a terrific ability to sidestep pressure and extend plays. Atley reads the field well and does not give up on plays. He has a unique ability to maintain his composure, allow receivers to come open and accurately deliver precision passes. Atley also demonstrates toughness and willingness to remain in the pocket and deliver throws even when he knows he is going to take a hit.
Cowan is definitely a quarterback to watch for this coming fall.

Cowan was a stud for AIT all weekend, I can see why he is one of top ranked players out of West Virginia for 2024. Very precise and accurate passer, Cowan was nearly flawless throughout the whole tournament.
Expect to hear his name more this off-season as he continues to master his craft. What stood out most to me about Cowan is that it didn’t matter who he was throwing too, he was making the proper reads. His squad had kids from different parts of Pennsylvania and West Virginia, the fact that he was able to come in and dominate was impressive.
