There are now almost 400 names in our 2024 Rankings with PRZ WV ranking every senior prospect that had film on their HUDL to evaluate. Here are the Top 10 quarterbacks in the 2024 class!
Staying at #1 in our QB rankings is Hurricane signal caller JacQai Long JacQai Long 6’2″ | 200 lbs | QB Hurricane | 2024 State WV who had a very productive season for the Redskins after transferring back to the Mountain State from Ohio. The Marshall signee threw for 1,800 yards and 19 touchdowns this season while throwing just two interceptions. Long added nearly 400 yards rushing and 7 more touchdowns on the ground to cap off a great high school career. Long is ranked in the Top 10 in our 2024 Rankings and solidified himself as the #1 QB in the 2024 class. He’s a very good athlete playing quarterback that could be considered a true dual-threat quarterback. Long has good size at 6’2 200 and can also stand in the pocket and deliver strikes. He has a quick release and is an effortless thrower who can drive the ball down the field with ease. Long also does a nice job hitting his receivers in stride and has good ball placement.
Robert Shockey Robert Shockey 6’1″ | 195 lbs | QB Cabell Midland | 2024 State WV jumps up to our #2 ranked QB spot and #11 overall in the 2024 Rankings after having a very good season with his new team at Cabell Midland. Shockey is a dynamic athlete that is known for his running ability but his arm is an underrated part of his game. He just picked up his first D1 offer from Army and I love that fit for Shockey if that’s where he decides to go in that offensive system. Shockey is still developing as a passer but he’s a no doubt D1 athlete who can play the quarterback position at a high level in college in the right system. I’d love to see him in an option offense in college that can showcase both sides of his quarterback abilities and he has the potential to earn some accolades at the next level for an FBS school.

There weren’t many higher stock risers in the state this season at any position and by far the biggest at quarterback than Parkersburg’s David Parsons David Parsons 6’3″ | 205 lbs | QB Parkersburg | 2024 State WV who had a monster year for the Big Reds. I really loved Parson’s junior film and he had a nice boost in the preseason rankings but jumped up even further to the #3 QB spot and is now in the Top 15 at #14 overall in the 2024 Rankings. Parsons threw for 2,700 yards and 33 touchdowns in his senior season and just picked up his first D1 offer from FCS VMI. He was an easy decision to put on our Class AAA First Team All-State honors and may have as high of a ceiling as any of the 2024 WV quarterbacks. Parsons has great size at 6’3 225 along with being a quality overall athlete. He has great arm strength and can really drive the ball down the field but also throw with nice touch. The part of his game that has always stood out to me is his ability to throw from a variety of arm angles and off-platform throws which speaks to his arm talent even further.
Coming in at our #4 spot in the quarterback rankings is George Washington’s Abraham Fenwick Abraham Fenwick 6’3″ | 205 lbs | QB George Washington | 2024 State WV who threw for just over 2,000 yards and 25 touchdowns in his senior season. The long-time William & Mary commit has decided to head to WVU as a PWO and become a Mountaineer. The 6’3 200 senior had a shaky start to the 2023 season but bounced back in the second half of the year and finished strong for the Patriots. The lefty gunslinger has a big arm that can thread the needle and push the ball downfield. While I wouldn’t classify him as a dual-threat quarterback, Fenwick is plenty athletic enough to scramble and take off when needed. He’s a good thrower on the run and does a nice job moving in the pocket when he’s under duress. Fenwick has been one of the state’s top quarterbacks for years and finishes his high school career in our Top 5.

Another big-time stocker riser at the quarterback position this year was Scott’s Matt Frye Matt Frye 6’1″ | 185 lbs | QB Scott | 2024 State WV who led the Skyhawks to one of their best seasons in school history and a 10-win season. Frye was named our Class AA Offensive Player of the Year after passing for nearly 3,500 yards and 41 touchdowns. The 6’1 180 three-year starter also rushed for almost 300 yards and 8 more scores showcasing his athletic abilities as a runner as well. Frye executed Scott’s spread offense perfectly and saw himself become one of the leading passers in West Virginia this season. He can make unconventional throws and make plays behind the line of scrimmage in and outside of the pocket. Frye looks very comfortable when chaos ensues around him which is the product of being a three-year starter with a ton of reps. He’s a gamer who can make routine plays or go off-script and create his own. Frye will make a college program very happy in the future.

East Fairmont quarterback Ian Crookshanks Ian Crookshanks 6’1″ | 200 lbs | QB East Fairmont | 2024 State WV ranks as our #6 QB in the 2024 class and capped off a great high school career which saw him throw for nearly 6,000 yards and 61 touchdowns along with 1,100 rushing yards and 32 more scores during his time as a Bee. Crookshanks is a physically built quarterback at 6’1 200 who is more of a bulldozing runner than a fast one. He has a big arm that can toss bombs and throw with zip on short and intermediate throws. High academic student posting a 4.28 GPA and will sign with a D2 school come February. A tough and physical quarterback with arm talent to match it. Throws a pretty deep ball that can stretch defenses vertically. Calm in the pocket and doesn’t panic but as mentioned is athletic enough to take off and run along with being capable of executing designed QB runs. Crookshanks can also throw with touch and lay passes in softly showing he’s not just a fastball pitcher so to speak.

Linsly senior Atley Cowan Atley Cowan 6’2″ | 190 lbs | QB Linsly | 2024 State WV had the potential of being moved to ATH in our rankings after playing some receiver and defensive back later in the season, but his film shows that he can play quarterback at the next level. He’s still a bit of a wild bronco that still needs to be broken in a bit but if a college program manages to do so they’re getting a gem and a steal. His highs are elite and his lows can be back-breaking but he has the opportunity to level his play out and create more highs and less lows. Cowan is the type of player who can have you shouting NO, NO, NO, YES! during any given play and has the innate ability to create Houdini-like highlights. 6’2 190 athlete who has been timed in the 4.6-4.7 40 range showing he can move around positionally if need be at the next level. He’s someone you need to coach hard but be patient with and the fruits of your efforts have the chance to be plentiful in time.
Morgantown High QB Maddox Bowers Maddox Bowers 6’1″ | 190 lbs | QB Morgantown | 2024 State WV rose up the Mohigan quarterback career leaderboards this season finishing 2nd in career passing yards, 3rd in career passing touchdowns, and 3rd in passing yards for a senior season in school history. That’s saying something given how many quality quarterbacks have come through the Morgantown program and Bowers is near the top of those names. They let him throw it around a bit more this season after he recovered from a shoulder injury that he played through last season. Another high academic student with a 4.125 GPA who is currently committed to D2 Glenville State. Bowers is definitely your traditional pocket passer who won’t take off very often and is more comfortable in the pocket. However, he still has the ability to move around in the pocket and evade pressure to make an accurate throw and roll out and throw on the run. Decent sized athlete at 6’0 190 and is built pretty well for a high school quarterback. Bowers also has quality arm strength and can throw across his body or push the ball downfield. I could see him being a very productive player in college after a year or two of development at the next level.

Staying in Morgantown for our #9 ranked quarterback in the 2024 Class is crosstown rival Luke Hudson Luke Hudson 6’3″ | 180 lbs | QB University | 2024 State WV of University. Hudson was a record-setting quarterback for the Hawks setting the new school record for career passing yards and single-season passing yards records. The 6’3 185 senior topped 2,400 passing yards and 19 touchdowns during his senior season and produced a 1,000-yard receiver in junior teammate Ethan Jackson Ethan Jackson 6’0″ | 165 lbs | WR University | 2025 State WV . His rushing numbers won’t show it but Hudson is also a very good overall athlete who can really run and make plays with his legs. He’s dynamic in the pocket at times and can create big plays by scrambling that many quarterbacks simply aren’t capable of. Hudson is a very good passer on the run and has a bit of a controlled chaos approach to his play. He’s still a bit raw as a prospect but I’m going to continue beating the drum that he’s a D2-level quarterback and hope to see one of those programs pull the trigger on an offer in the near future.
Summers County quarterback Brandan Isaac Brandan Isaac 6’1″ | 150 lbs | QB Summers County | 2024 State WV seemingly came out of nowhere this season after having no film from prior seasons although people in that neck of the woods at the Class A level were certainly plenty aware of his talents. Isaac threw for nearly 2,500 yards and 25 touchdowns which is not very common at the small school level. He’s also a quality runner rushing for going on 400 yards and 7 more scores. Isaac impressed so much this season that D2 Concord came in with an offer and I’m sure there is a lot of interest from D3 schools. At 6’1 150 he’s going to need to add a considerable amount of weight to play at the next level especially if he lands at a D2 school. Isaac is likely a year away from being a year away from producing in college but he’s a very good project to take and work on. Although a raw prospect, Isaac has the talent and ability to be a college quarterback and could be a hidden gem for a college program in the future.
