Rounding out the offensive lineman on this breakdown is Checotah’s Ashton Newport Ashton Newport 6'5" | 315 lbs | OL Checotah | 2028 State OK and similar to Augustine, Newport is a 2028 prospect that we first watched in person when he was in middle school. So that was the starting point of our evaluation of him as a prospect and then we got a chance to see him last month at Checotah’s team camp. Newport looks like he has taken that next step as an overall prospect and looks like the monster that we thought was possible a few years ago. He’ll be the man in the middle of the Checotah offensive line at the center position. And he just looks more comfortable on the line of scrimmage, calling out assignments on the line and knowing where everyone around him should be.

Offensive lineman Ashton Newport Ashton Newport 6'5" | 315 lbs | OL Checotah | 2028 State OK is the first of two Checotah Wildcats that are 2028 prospects to watch. Newport was on our radar before his freshman season after he stood out at one of our middle school camps. The Checotah big man has a lot of size that you simply can’t coach and while the overall skills are still raw in some areas, he has the potential to be really good by the end of his high school career. Newport measures in at 6’6 and 275 pounds and that gives the Wildcats a cornerstone on their offensive line for the next three seasons. As long as he continues to progress from a skill perspective, he’s going to be a prospect coaches need to know. 

Checotah has a handful of 2028 prospects that have already gotten on our radar so there’s no doubt in our mind that the future is bright for the Wildcats. He was one of the better offensive lineman standouts at our PRZ-Next camp in January and the first thing that stood out to us was his size, as he passed the eye test immediately. When we got another chance to see Newport in person, it was the spring and he was working with the varsity as a center. Checotah is having a terrific start to the season and like we mentioned, they should be good for a while.
