Lumbreras is a genuinely fantastic athlete who seems to have success anywhere you put him on the field. I know he’s had success with the ball in his hands. He’s twitchy and explosive. He’s able to make just about anyone miss and then can re-accelerate with the best of them. Yesterday, he was on the backend of the defense and gave some WRs fits all day. He’s always right in the back pocket of the WR and with his closing speed, is never out-of a play. He was consistent, made plays when they came his way, and earned the MVP through quiet consistency.

Lumbreras is a developing athlete whose future on where he can play on the field is still up in the air because of the versatility and athletic ability he has. He’s so nimble and has such great change of direction you could argue for him to be on either side of the ball, which is where he’s been to this point in his career. He’s also been hard at work in the weight room this winter preparing for the opportunity ahead. If Lumbreras develops like he could and breaks out this fall, he could end up throwing his name in towards the top of the class.
