at a preseason scrimmage a few years ago, when he was an underclassman at Southmoore. Before last season, Johnson moved over to Norman and had a solid junior campaign. But this season, you can make the argument that Johnson has been one of the bigger breakout stars in Class 6A-1. He’s had a terrific senior season and all the things that impressed us about him a few years ago are still there. Now, he has the production against top level competition to go with the overall look and athletic ability. Johnson is definitely one of those players that is the “hidden gem” late in the recruiting cycle that will make a staff look very smart when they offer him.

is definitely a name to keep an eye on this season. Last year, the Tigers were prolific in the passing game and they lit up the scoreboard behind a dynamic quarterback. This year, they have a new signal caller and they look to be more balanced on that side of the ball. That’s where Johnson could really explode. Last season, he finished with nearly 700 yards and three touchdowns. He also had over 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns as a receiver out of the backfield. Johnson finished his junior season with 88 carries but we expect that workload to go up significantly this season as he has the tools to be one of the better backs in 6A-1.

is a name that we have circled coming into the 2024 football season. Last year, he was at Southmoore and this offseason, he’s moved down to Norman. When we watched Johnson in person last year, he really stood out to us as a guy that had a tremendous amount of potential. But he still needed to prove it during the season. He had an injury-plagued 2023 football season and is hungry to get back on the field this fall. With a new team and a really strong offensive line, it wouldn’t be surprising if Johnson turned into a breakout player in this Norman offense. But he’ll have to earn everything he gets with his new team.

There are quite a few prospects in the state’s 2026 class that have the potential to skyrocket up the rankings and become truly elite and running back

is in that conversation. Johnson looks the part physically and if he can stay healthy, he is primed for a big 2024 season. Johnson was a standout for Southmoore during his sophomore campaign but he has moved south to Norman and will be joining the Tigers. Norman has had a good run of running backs in the last few years and Johnson could be an instant impact player for the Tigers. Again, if Johnson stays healthy, there’s no reason why he can’t be productive and become one of the better running backs in 6A-1. The ceiling is very high with Johnson moving forward.

In addition to Locklin at Lawton MacArthur, Southmoore also had a 2026 standout with

at the running back position. Coincidentally, it was Southmoore and Lawton MacArthur that faced off in the mini game on Thursday evening. Southmoore was held scoreless but like the Highlanders, they did have moments on offense where they were able to move the ball. And when the Sabercats were on the move, it was usually Johnson making things happen in the open field. Whether he was running the football or catching the ball out of the backfield, we saw quite a few flashes of a player with some promise moving forward as Southmoore looks to turn things around this fall.

is in that conversation and we think he’s going to provide quite a bit of versatility to the offensive side of the ball. Johnson has good size and seems to only be getting better every time he steps on the field. He’s had a very busy offseason, improving his overall game and it is going to be interesting to see how the Sabercats utilize him on the offensive side of the ball. Whether he’s lining up at running back or wide receiver, Johnson is going to give the Sabercats a potential playmaker when he gets the ball in his hands. There is a lot of potential here with Johnson.
