Afonso made 45 total tackles (22 solo) last season. Versatile safety who can play in the box against the run or come down and cover the slot receiver in the passing game. I have to give him credit. He’s not the biggest safety, but when he comes downhill to make a stop on a running back, he’s not afraid to put his nose in there and make a solid tackle in space. Afonso does a good job of reacting quickly to any receivers that either catch or try to catch a football in front of him. He’s either hitting the receiver and knocking the ball out at the same time, or he’s stopping the receiver from getting any additional yardage after the catch.
He competed at Towson’s prospect camp back on June 8th.
