The past year gave us some memorable performances and many of those kids will be looking to do it once again in 2021.
Eddie Burgess, Montezuma
The numbers were out of this world once again for Montezuma’s Eddie Burgess. The talented signal-caller completed 64 percent of his passes for 3,803 yards with 59 touchdowns and just eight interceptions.
Oh, and he also ran for 1,148 yards and scored 28 more touchdowns.
Burgess will be breaking in some new receivers, but with his skills and talent, that should not be a big problem. He has a college-level arm and incredible vision that allows him to know when to take off.
Conor Gruver, Easton Valley
Easton Valley’s Conor Gruver had no trouble standing and delivering from inside the pocket. The junior completed nearly 56 percent of his passes for just under 2,300 yards with 37 touchdowns and just eight interceptions.
The Easton Valley offense will likely be even more dependent on Gruver with the graduation of Kolton Murphy. Look for Gruver to add more of a rushing attack to his arsenal next fall.
Mike Delzell, Camanche
Mike Delzell completed nearly 65 percent of his 217 pass attempts, covering almost 2,100 yards with 20 touchdowns this year for Camanche, helping the program reach new heights.
Delzell showed incredible improvement over the season, which was his first under center. While Camanche graduates several standouts, you can expect the offense to focus on Delzell.
Jaxon Dailey Jaxon Dailey 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Southeast Polk | 2022 State IA , Southeast Polk
The Southeast Polk offense will be quite the powerhouse in 2021 with all-world quarterback Jaxon Dailey Jaxon Dailey 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Southeast Polk | 2022 State IA leading the unit. Dailey completed 69 percent of his throws for 1,859 yards with 19 touchdowns last year.
Poise, strong arm, the ability to take off and create are all some of the intangibles Dailey brings to the football field. He checks all the boxes including size at 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds.
Caden Matson, Humboldt
In his first full season as quarterback of the Humboldt attack, Caden Matson showed his dual-threat abilities week in and week out. Matson threw for 1,515 yards with 14 touchdowns, adding 1,068 yards and 18 more scores on the ground.
Matson’s time spent preparing for the season paid off as he was the MVP for Humboldt on both sides of the ball. His knowledge of each and every play made him a force everywhere he played.
