Sayville competed in the 7v7 that Floyd hosted last week. The Golden Flashes went head to head against Bayport-Blue Point, St Anthony’s and William Floyd who are all championship contenders in their leagues. Sayville showed how talented their program is, check out some of my standout performers from the Golden Flashes at this 7v7 event.
Going into Tripptree’s senior year you have to think he’s a serious contender for the Hansen award. Not only is he one of the best quarterbacks in the state, he has an incredible supporting staff around him. He utilized his speedy receivers in this offense by throwing absolute dimes downfield. He connected with Luke Hansen Luke Hansen 6’1″ | 185 lbs | ATH Sayville | 2024 State NY on an amazing long ball early against Bayport-Blue Point. Just like some of the other top quarterbacks on the island, Tripptree’s leadership is evident. The Golden Flashes are his team and he led this Sayville offense to a great performance by making the smart plays and had amazing chemistry and timing with his receivers. He connected on a variety of passes and he showed why he’s a division 1 bound QB thanks to all of his tools.

The last two years Kyle Messina Kyle Messina 6’1″ | 195 lbs | RB Sayville | 2025 State NY has made a name for himself as one of New York’s best players. And at the 7v7, it was evident that he was easily one of the most athletic players on the field. At running back he made an impact on his short routes and caught everything his way. Although plays were blown dead quickly, Messina showed his burst and acceleration after he caught passes and it was very impressive. But during these 7v7’s what Messina did on defense jumped out to me the most. He was going step for step with some of the best receivers on the island. He will be one of the best two way players in New York this upcoming season.

Sayville’s defense is always extremely aggressive and brings the energy and the leader of the Golden Flashes secondary was Anthony Contaldi Anthony Contaldi 5’11” | 180 lbs | ATH Sayville | 2024 State NY . I saw him at the downstate classic and it looked like he got even bigger and more athletic here in July. He was all over the field and showcased his speed to quickly get to the opposition when he was playing safety. Contaldi is solid in man coverage as well, I’m expecting him to be a machine on defense this year. Offensivley he will be another reliable option for Jake Tripptree Jake Tripptree 6’1″ | 185 lbs | QB Sayville | 2024 State NY . So many of these Sayville guys will impact the game in multiple phases.
The great tradition of quarterbacks at Sayville looks like it will continue for a couple more years. Of course the name “Coan” is familiar when you talk about Long Island football, but Patrick Coan Patrick Coan 6’4″ | 185 lbs | QB Sayville | 2026 State NY in the class of 2026 will make his own mark in Sayville. After finally seeing him in person, I can confidently say he would start on 90 percent of teams on Long Island this season. Coan has great size and a cannon of an arm. Against elite defense like Bayport, Floyd and St Anthony’s you would have thought he was an upperclassman quarterback. He was poised and looked very comfortable with every throw he made. He has a bright future and definitely has potential to be an elite quarterback on Long Island when it’s all said and done.

The biggest breakout of the day. Dylan Kent Dylan Kent ATH Sayville | 2025 State NY made a name for himself at this 7v7 by making plays at receiver and cornerback. This young man is a pure athlete. He was flying all over the field and he brought that “Sayville intensity” to each 7v7 he played in. At receiver, he created separation from his DB but he also displayed the ability to go up and come down with difficult catches. He was great at tracking the ball and it seemed like every time I watched Sayville he made a play on the ball. With Luke Hansen Luke Hansen 6’1″ | 185 lbs | ATH Sayville | 2024 State NY , Tony Contaldi and Kyle Messina Kyle Messina 6’1″ | 195 lbs | RB Sayville | 2025 State NY all in the lineup, there will be minimal attention on Kent and let me tell you the 2025 rising star is going to make a huge impact this season.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Luke Hansen Luke Hansen 6’1″ | 185 lbs | ATH Sayville | 2024 State NY will be one of Suffolk County’s top receivers this season. His acceleration during his routes give him such an advantage against his defenders. His speed and Jake Tripptree Jake Tripptree 6’1″ | 185 lbs | QB Sayville | 2024 State NY ‘s arm is an incredible connection as we saw it on a deep touchdown early in the first game against Bayport-Blue point. Hansen runs crisp routes and tracks the ball well. When he has a single coverage, he was a serious issue for defenses, that could be a theme during his senior season.
