Coan is one of the top QB’s in the state. Sayville is a QB factory in NY, and they have helped develop another Coan QB. Coan is committed to Lehigh for football.
Coan committed back in June, and put together a solid season, and took home the Division III Long Island Championship this year. Lehigh is getting a QB, with a football DNA, who has outstanding size, and a strong arm. Coan is a dual threat QB, who displays a good use of legs, and delivers the ball with good accuracy.
Congratulations Patrick!

as he excels in hitting his throws and making the right reads throughout his film. Mechanics and footwork can use some fine tweaking; however, Coan is easily a top QB in the state with an impressive Junior tape.

The QB from Sayville has been turning heads this offseason. At 6’4”, he has great size and is coming off a junior year where he had phenomenal tape. Sayville is Quarterback U on Long Island, and Coan continued that trend last season. He’s one of the only quarterbacks I’ve seen carve up Garden City’s lockdown defense in the last five years. He made excellent reads and completed some very tough passes all over the field. He was composed and confident all year. He threw for over 2,000 yards, had a 29-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio, and a completion percentage of 65%. He just made his commitment to Lehigh and will be one of the most well-known names on Long Island this season.

Coan was dominant for his first season as a full-time starter for Sayville’s quarterback factory. He has elite measurables for the position and should end up around the 6’4 “220 range in college. He has the athleticism to make plays on the run.
Size: Coan is the only quarterback near the top of this quarterback group who exceeds what you look for in quarterback measurables; most guys just hit the requisite level, but Coan has the frame to be an asset at the next level.
Velocity: Coan can spin it. He stands out with level 1 balls, which are on a straight line and essentially full-strength throws in the short and intermediate areas of the field. He flashes a strong arm and deep accuracy, but those intermediate throws to the sidelines and over the middle of the field have some very good zip on them. You see a lot of success over the middle of the field because of the velocity Coan has on his throws.
Timing/Decision Making: Coan is incredibly efficient when working in rhythm and delivering out of 3-step and 5-step drops. He does the simple things well, which, although it sounds easy, you realize that every year, fewer quarterbacks can consistently make the simple plays. It all starts with his decision-making and ability to work within the structure of a play and its timing.

In his first year as the full-time starter in what is becoming QBU on Long Island at Sayville, Coan exceeded high expectations, showcasing his athleticism and putting up incredible efficient numbers this season.
I’m impressed with Coan’s tape overall; I think there is a very diverse set of throws on tape more than most quarterbacks, and the efficiency and decision-making for a first-year starter is very impressive. I was not able to see him live this year, but I have been impressed with camps in the past. I did catch a full game via broadcast in the playoffs and was very impressed with a full game body of work.
Coan has great size at 6’4 190, and he fits the prototype at the QB position. While he shows off some athleticism, he is not the type of QB to pull and run after his first read like many HS guys. Coan does a really good job of working in rhythm, you see at least 15 reps on film where you see an efficient dropback, read, and deliver on throws that cover every part of the field – he throws the out route extremely well which for me has often been a good indicator of QBs true arm strength.

Coan, one of the top QBs in the 2026 class, likely would be much higher in the recently updated 2026 rankings if he had an entire season of varsity film under his belt. Coan now takes over the reins at QB for Sayville and comes with tons of hype and expectation, which has already materialized into an offer from Stony Brook.

Coan probably has the highest true ceiling of any quarterback in this class and the Sayville QB is in a similar situation to some other QBs in this class where he has some film but truly won’t be the starter until this fall.
Coan has a very strong arm and throws with a natural zip and velocity that are a level above other quarterbacks in this class. He can make really tough throws in the intermediate area of the field and has on tape some high-quality level 1 and level 2 balls from the pocket. If Coan can continue to clean up his footwork, he will be able to push the ball vertically more consistently.
