Expert Analysis

Solomon had an incredible week of bowl practice – he was making interceptions daily from his defensive back spot, and that work carried over to the game as well. Solomon made a nice interception, playing his assigned zone and getting the appropriate depth on the play. Solomon then high-pointed the ball perfectly in the end zone, giving the West Team its 4th interception on the day. Solomon talks about the play here.

Solomon is listed as a defensive back here with us, but he has been a team player this season, playing some offense for the Trojans. Solomon has made multiple game-changing plays throughout his career on both sides of the ball. He has very good speed and ball skills, as a defender he can be a ball hawk in the defensive secondary. Solomon is a steady player who performs well in critical situations.

Ford’s length and quickness give him really impressive range as a free safety. His instincts certainly help with that as well and he’s been able to rack up several pass breakups and a couple of interceptions this season. He plays some corner as well and he’s good enough at mirroring receivers to succeed there, but his future is at safety, where he’s able to play with his eyes to the quarterback.

A two-way player, we like Ford’s upside better as a defensive back than as a receiver, because his length and athleticism are more difficult to find in prospects on that side of the ball. Ford had 51 tackles and six pass breakups on defense and he’s able to use his acceleration and length to get to balls thrown to receivers right out of cuts. He can clean up his hips a bit but he’s a solid defensive back prospect, especially after adding some weight in the offseason.

Ford was extremely productive in pass coverage, mostly at the cornerback position. I like him most in a system that utilizes boundary corners, as he works well in limited space. that also gives him upside at the nickel position. This season I’m looking for him to take a step forward in run defense as he looks to become a complete corner as he gets older.
