Weatherspoon will be one of several premier defensive backs in Ohio’s 2026 class. He’s very athletic and moves well when breaking onto the football. He’s great in pursuit of ball-carriers and packs a punch on his tackles.

Weatherspoon was everywhere Thursday night, racking up 10 tackles, 2 pass breakups, and a blocked extra point that would be a pivotal play throughout the contest. Weatherspoon shows great reactiveness when getting downhill and landing big hits. Whether it is a running back or a big tight end, his physicality matches that of anyone. As a middle deep third or lone safety up top, he has the range you look for to make splash plays through the air.

Weatherspoon is a dual-threat weapon for Avon. As a DB, he is fast and aggressive. He can lay the boom and track you down perfectly through the air. His eyes for the football are impressive, and he can position himself well to break up passes or get interceptions. On offense, he is an explosive WR. Many of his catches come on deep balls, and he is often separated by quite a bit due to his overwhelming top-end speed. Weatherspoon will be a prospect to watch going into the offseason as his recruiting trail has been on fire all season, earning offers and visits from high-profile programs.

Weatherspoon is another 2026 who will get plenty of offseason experience with an 11-0 Eagles team that looks poised to make a deep playoff run. Weatherspoon first caught my attention this last offseason where he put up great testing results at the combine put on by the Cleveland Browns. He then showed off his speed by setting a school record in the 400-meter (48.42) dash and qualifying for state as a freshman. He’s carried all of that momentum into a really strong sophomore season. Each athlete progresses physically at different rates, and in Jakob’s case he looks to have a college ready body, now. He’s a legit 4.4-4.5 guy, and that speed translates to the football field. The combination of length, speed, and athleticism is impressive and will make him a tough matchup for smaller faster guys and bigger slower guys. In the run and blitz game he plays fast and physical. Weatherspoon has picked up an early offer from Michigan, this offseason I expect he’ll continue to stack high P5 offers.

It doesn’t get much better than a first college offer from a defending college football playoff semifinalist, and if you don’t believe me, you can ask Avon, Ohio’s 2026 standout Jakob Weatherspoon. The 5’11, 170 lb. sophomore has been tearing up fields of Northern Ohio this fall and saw his standout speed, athleticism, and tape pay off with a major first offer from the University of Michigan in mid-September. One of the top 400M runners in the United States, Weatherspoon transitions that speed to the gridiron as a cornerback nicely, displaying top end speed to easily stay on top of WRs going vertical and run down loose ball carriers far downfield with pursuit speed that is very rare to find, especially in an underclassman. He has lined up and held his own against high-quality competition such as Ohio State commits and other P5 athletes, and gets out of his breaks with pace, covers an absurd amount of ground in run support, and is an effective blitzer from the CB spot. For a young buck of his size, Weatherspoon has no problems in the physicality department either. He looks very comfortable and natural in pass coverage and already has a balanced and playmaking skillset that should do very well the rest of his varsity career and into college. Great move by the Wolverines getting in early.
