COVID-19 Week 4 Update

COVID-19 continues to make an impact on the New Jersey high school football scene. As Week 4 approaches, 19 football teams will be shut down. Games are being dropped and added on a daily basis. Two teams, Clearview and Ridgefield Park, have been unable to take the field yet due to the virus. A total of 18 games have been cancelled this week, and eight games have been added. Let’s take a look at the impact COVID-19 will have on Week 4. <strong>Bayonne: </strong>Bayonne will be unable to play against Clifton this Friday after an assistant coach tested positive. A return to the field remains up in the air at this point. Clifton will instead play Montclair. <strong>Belleville: </strong>Belleville had to cancel its game against West Side this Friday after a player tested positive for the virus. The program is in its second week of its shutdown. West Side added a game against Hudson Catholic. <strong>Butler: </strong>Butler continues to quarantine and will be unable to play against Cresskill Friday night. <strong>Delran: </strong>Delran will not meet Sterling as originally planned this week. Athletics continue to be shut down due to COVID-19. <strong>Gloucester Catholic: </strong>Gloucester Catholic had to cancel its game against Cumberland this Saturday after a number of players need to self-quarantine. Extracurricular activities are on hold until Monday. <strong>Hanover Park: </strong>Hanover Park is in its second week of its shutdown. The Morris County school will not play Parsippany this week. <strong>Hamilton West: </strong>Hamilton West has cancelled all sports through Nov. 2 due to a positive COVID-19 test. <strong>Immaculata: </strong>Immaculata will not meet Hudson Catholic this week. The Somerset County school's sports teams remain in shutdown. <strong>Iselin Kennedy: </strong>Iselin Kennedy will be shut down until Oct. 29. As a result, the team will not play Scotch Plains-Fanwood this week. <strong>Kinnelon: </strong>The Morris County program remains shut down due to COVID-19. The team will next play against Whippany Park on Nov. 6. Kinnelon was slated to play Pequannock this week. <strong>Livingston: </strong>A positive test keeps Livingston away from the field this week. The Lancers will not play Montclair, and Montclair takes on Clifton instead. <strong>Nottingham: </strong>Exposure to someone who tested positive forces Nottingham to quarantine this week, and it will miss this week’s game against Notre Dame. Notre Dame now takes on Pemberton this week. <strong>Park Ridge: </strong>Park Ridge will not meet St. Mary (Ruth.) this week. Sports teams will resume activities on Oct. 27. <strong>Ramapo: </strong>Athletic teams are shut down until Halloween after several positive tests. Ramapo won’t play Bergenfield this week as originally scheduled. <strong>Secaucus:</strong> Secaucus has to cancel this week’s game against Becton as it continues its shutdown. <strong>Trenton: </strong>Trenton has cancelled the next two games after playing against Nottingham. Trenton will not play Pemberton this Saturday. Pemberton will meet Notre Dame as a replacement. <strong>Wallington: </strong>Wallington will not meet Wood-Ridge this week due to COVID-19. Wood-Ridge will play against Roselle Park this Friday. <strong>West Essex: </strong>West Essex will not meet Parsippany Hills this week after the team is in its second week of a shutdown after three students at the school tested positive. Parsippany Hills will play at River Dell in replacement. <strong>Westwood: </strong>Westwood’s game at Pascack Hills will be cancelled. Athletic programs will be shut down for two weeks.
