Winning the game 59-12, both sides of the ball showed out and played at a very high level. The story coming out of the game was the offensive connection of wide receiver Jake Weidinger Jake Weidinger 6'3" | 195 lbs | WR Flagstaff | 2023 AZ (Class of 2023), and his quarterback Chase Brown (Class of 2026). It might not that big of a deal, a big game for QB and WR, but with Chase Brown being a freshman, it makes it even better.
Chase Brown, Quarterback
Chase Brown has played in all 3 games this season for the Eagles, completing 75% of his throws, averaging 27 yards a completion, and has 6 touchdowns this year (all Friday). Having his varsity debut start last Friday, Brown threw for 405 yards and 6 TD scores. His overall pocket presence as a freshman is off the charts, he showed against Rio Rico he can make any throw on the field, and showed his ability to read defenses and find the second window if needed. His deep ball accuracy is very good, and showed nice zip on the ball in the short flat routes as well as in the middle between the backers. I liked a lot of what I saw from Brown (how could you not), and I am excited to see where not only this season takes him, but the rest of his high school career.
Jake Weidinger Jake Weidinger 6'3" | 195 lbs | WR Flagstaff | 2023 AZ , Wide Receiver
Jake Weidinger Jake Weidinger 6'3" | 195 lbs | WR Flagstaff | 2023 AZ also balled out Friday night, helping his young quarterback by getting open and giving him easy access to completions. Jake racked up 5 catches, 231 yards and found the end zone three times. Having over half the passing yards alone, Weidinger showed a variety of routes, and his ability to make big plays on any given play. His touchdowns came from a seam route near the red zone, a big play off a well ran sluggo route nearly 80 yards, and even a trick play off special teams. He showed great footwork on his short routes, and showed his speed and extra gear he has when running away from the defense for 6 points. Weidinger has great size at 6’3″ 195 lbs, is coming off a 1st team all-region performance, and has college offers lined up. Expect more big games from him up in Flagstaff.
Flagstaff travels to Tempe to take on Marcos de Niza this Friday, kickoff at 7 PM.
