The Panthers came in 1-0 after a huge win against Pewamo-Westphalia in their week one showdown, looking to proved to the state, what their staff and players already know… that they’re the real deal. Crestwood, playing host, was looking to bounce back after their week one loss to Roseville. Here’s the game recap of the face off from Friday night.
The first quarter was like a lot of first quarters in high school football… both teams feeling out their opponents. Redford Union (RU) started the game on offense and ended their first drive by pinning the Chargers back on their own 3 yard line with a huge punt! Tucked back on their own goal line Crestwood went three & out and punted back to RU, starting their second drive already in enemy territory. The Panthers started to put together a nice drive in the closest minutes of the first.
0-0 at the end of the 1st.
Starting the 2nd quarter RU was in the redzone and had six on their mind. RU’s Senior QB, Cory Chavis, found WR Kyren Ware for a 6 yard pass to draw first blood in this fight. Crestwood ended up punting again on their next drive, giving the ball back to an offense who was hungry to find the endzone again. Chavis found Ware yet again on their next drive for a 4 yard TD pass, puting the Panthers up 14-0 with a few minutes left until halftime. Crestwood last drive before the half showed a lot of promise! Marching down the field the Chargers found themselves 4 & goal on the 2 with 2 seconds let until half… and couldn’t punch it in.
14-0 Panthers up at the half.
The 3rd quarter was filled with some fireworks after both teams made their adjustments at the half. Crestwood started the half with the ball… just to fumble it on the first drive, giving the Panthers possession at the 15 yard line. The very next play, Chavis found WR DeMatthew Dixon in the the corner of the endzone from 15 yards out. The Chargers didn’t give up that easy though… Junior QB Ali Achkar found his RB on a well designed screen pass that hit for a 48 yard TD! Chavis and the Panthers were back on the prawl yet again. Chavis on their next drive found his ”go-to” WR Kyren Ware for a 35 yard bomb to add to RU’s talley. The next three drives for the Chargers ended with giving the ball back to RU… and RU using those turnovers to create points. Chavis threw for 2 more TD to finish off the game (one to WR Jerimiah Alston and one to WR Jamel Belcher).
41-6 Panthers FINAL.
