Expert Analysis
Chris Smith | Prep Redzone Scout
The state’s top quarterback prospect for the 2028 in-state class, Simpson had a monster sophomore campaign that saw him put up silly stats while leading his Chargers team to a Class 3A state championship. This signal caller certainly earned our 3A player of the year honors on top of his Mr. Football win in December after a dominating 2025 season. Simpson ended the year throwing for 3,565 yards on 194 completions while tossing for 43 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. The Chargers sophomore also completed 75 percent of his passes due to quick play recognition and strong play up front. The kind of numbers that Simpson generates may put him in-line to become the state’s all-time leading passer by the time his career is over.

Simpson is coming one of the better individual season’s you will ever see in this state as he led his Chargers team to a 3A state title while producing staggering offensive numbers and now has a “Mr. Football” trophy in his name. This West Tennessee signal caller was named “Mr. Football” on Tuesday afternoon after a sensational sophomore year and the crazy thing is that Simpson has two years left in high school, so he should be competing for this top individual honor again and more state titles. Simpson could wind up as one of the more decorated high school players of all-time by the time his career is over.

Not only did Simpson lead his team towards a 3A state title but he also broke the Blue Cross Bowl record books. The Chargers sophomore quarterback went nuts against Gatlinburg-Pittman as Simpson threw for 566 yards on 86% completion percentage while throwing for 7 touchdowns and running for one more. Anything Simpson wanted to do versus the Highlanders, he did it while showing why he is the top in-state prospect coming out of our TN2028 recruiting class.

Simpson had arguably the best single-game state championship performance in Tennessee high school football history. The sophomore signal caller accounted for 612 total yards, eight touchdowns and completed 86% of his passes.
He was on fire from the moment the ball was kicked off, and nobody had any business stopping him.
