Continue ReadingLosing the first and last games of your season usually points to disappointment. This couldn’t be further from the truth when expanding on Redbank Valley’s historic run in 2021. RBV lost their opening conference game on the road to Keystone, then proceeded to dismantle the rest of their regular season schedule. Our 2022 class rankings were riddled with names like Chris Marshall, Joseph Mansfield, and Marquese Gardlock, all of whom placed high on our lists. The trio, along with Bryson Bain and Ray Schreckengost, were major contributors on both sides of the ball. In terms of role, production, and direction, these five powered the Bulldogs to great heights, coming as close as one score away from bringing home the 1A State Championship. Some would say the RBV Bulldogs overachieved, yet HC Blane Gold knew the pinnacle the team could reach last Fall. Major props to a historic season, as well as a great championship finale against a talented Bishop Guilfoyle team.
The talented class of 2022 couldn’t have reached their peak without excellent play from Carsen Rupp Carsen Rupp 6’3″ | 235 lbs | OL Redbank Valley | 2023 State PA , who we spoke of in previous posts dating back to last year. We remember Rupp playing out of position due to necessity, exemplifying what it means to put the team first in the name of victories. College coaches recruiting RBV see and understand the situation. Showing some versatility may have pushed his recruitment in the right direction, as Rupp recently picked up his first offer from Waynesburg University. To my eye, Rupp has a surefire D2 ceiling that can be cemented with another outstanding year on the field, as well as in the classroom where Rupp excels. Pressure will be on the young man this Fall, he’s poised enough to handle it.
Cam Wagner
Cam Wagner
Cam Wagner is one of the more intriguing names that I will pay close attention to this Fall. Potential is through the roof, the stature is there, there’s a clear understanding of timing, decisions look clean in limited tape. Wagner boasts a 5-1 record when starting under center for the Bulldogs, an impressive early sample size that should alleviate any trust issues from the coaching staff. Wagner is in prime position to take his stock as high as he wants to take it. Wagner was under center for what was the program’s first-ever state playoff victory. I’m confident Wagner will land on our rankings and, more importantly, on the eyes of college coaches by the end of his senior campaign.
Tate Minich
Tate Minich
Tate Minich was admittedly overshadowed by some of the talent the Bulldogs trotted out on the field. A shame too, considering how crucial Minich was to the flow of the offense. Minich reeled in 41 balls for seven scores last Fall, numbers that come second only to the team’s top wideout Chris Marshall. Minich was one of the more consistent targets in the RBV system, eating at all areas of the field but acting as the safest and most reliable pass-catcher amongst a crowded group. The obvious can be stated, the program will miss its historic 2022 class. Yet, a trio of this caliber, combined with a now experienced coaching staff, could somehow surprise many again this Fall. Minich recently announced his commitment to Seton Hill University baseball.
