Inside South Putnam: How the Eagles Can Return to Lucas Oil

After just two losses to 3A Edgewood and 4A Northview, the Eagles finished with a 13-2 record and captured a Class 1A state championship with a decisive 55-29 win over Pioneer. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound linebacker is big, tough, physical, strong and very productive; he finished second in the country in tackles last season with 251 total and 143 solo. Mowery-Shields has great range, closing speed, instincts and explosiveness. Having seen him live, I am shocked college coaches did not offer during the contact period. Cline finished last season as an all-state player, finishing 115-of-199 for 2,261 yards and a whopping 27 touchdowns throughout he air. He added 85 carries for 529 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground. On defense, he recorded 86 total tackles, four interceptions, seven pass breakups. On offense, he is a strong run blocker with a quick first step. The 6-foot-3 offensive lineman really fires forward off the line-of-scrimmage and is quick to reach the second level; on defense, he can plug the middle and be hard to block.
